To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a European TK-270G (N) -1

Which software type should I be using - I think its KPG-67D for the European version and KPG-56D for the USA version?

I think KPG-67D is Windows based? Do I need to use Win 98 or will it run on Win XP?

Thanks

Thanks.

I initially tried KPG-67D as I understood that it was for European radios with 5 Tone signalling. But I got a "wrong radio"...so my radio is not 5 Tone!!!

I then used KPG-56D v3.2 DOS which worked great.

The Windows version is KPG-56D v4.2x. which I did not try.

Do you need to use Windows 98 or will the Win version run on XP?

I don't think the radio model designation on the back eg. TK-270G (N) -1 provides any indication whether you need the 5Tone KPG-67D or KPG-56D.

Thanks

The model information that says Tk-270G (N) indicates that the radio will do narrowband 12.5 kz. in band 1, which means that it will be in the 450-470 mhz band spread and ONLY in narrowband.

Use the Win version KPG56D v4.2 and you can use it on any Win platform.

5tone is just a type of signaling and you do not need to worry about it.

What frequency's are you programing?

I have initially programmed 2m frequencies (145MHz) but I will probably add some marine (156MHz) and other stuff around 165MHz. Its a VhF not UHF radio.

Please see my question in the other thread about the carrier squelch level being too sensitive even at the highest setting (0-9) and whether this is a firmware rather than alignment issue - its effect 2 identical radios and there is a TK207G firmware update which relates to sensitive squelch issues.

Where are you located? Why are you trying for 165 frequency's? Also, this radio is not type rated for the marine frequency's for transmit.

As for any Kenwood firmware, you are going to have to go thru a dealer as there is no way to contact Kenwood direct for it.

Just for RXing on marine and taxi stuff.

Do you not have firmware update files?

Have you come across SQ issue before?

I'm wondering if its a "PC Mode" issue as per the firmware update description...maybe the PC cannot adjust SQ sensitivity without firmware update. But I might be able ot use "Panel Tuning Mode" ie use front keys to align SQ manually? You basically don't need a PC to set up the radio!!! You can also program new frequencies from the keypad...so called Field Programming option if you remove a diode..
