To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).
This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.
Because this radio is from Kenwood's land mobile, not amateur radio, line, the thread has been moved to the Kenwood forum in the Commercial and Professional Radio section.
I have the same issue with my TK 2302v...I'm using the KPG-119D software but i get the same error messages. I'm not a big fan of Kenwood's Winows based software, i liked the DOS better.
OK, I finally had a chance to take a look and this is what I found from Kenwood regarding V2 TK-x302u radios:
IMPORTANT NOTES:
All radios shipped as of July 1st 2010 will include Version 2 masked ROM firmware.
Version 1 radios cannot be upgraded to Version 2 masked ROM firmware; not flash upgradeable.
Download the latest KPG-119DK V2.00 or later program software to program V2 radios from Kenwood Tools. KPG-119DK V1.xx programming software will not read/write to V2 radios, however KPG-119DK V2.00 will read/write to both V1 and V2 radios.
Programming: Check ☑the Version 2 box in the Product Information window. Choose FleetSync® or MDC-1200 if needed.
Version 2 radios can be identified by serial number and/or the “Ver 2.0” mark on the box or radio label.
o TK-2302V: S/N B0602521 or later
o TK-3302U: S/N B0606651 or later
Make sure you check that box in the Product Information window. See if that makes it work correctly.
Mckenna, thank you! That was the ticket. I was trying to program a version 2.0 radio with the version 1 software. I have since programmed the radio with the correct version 2 of the KPG-119D, and all has been good. Thanks for the information.
Glad I could help, and I'm glad to hear it worked for you.
It would be interesting to know if the "help" in the software mentions this. The information I provided was from the Kenwood Dealer Tools website where there was a service bulletin regarding this.
I don't think there is a difference, but I could be wrong.
As to where to legally get the software, contact your local Kenwood dealer. Not saying there are not any other sources, but legally, Kenwood is the place.
