• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have had several TK-762 8 channel mobiles and just bought a 762 2 channel. I have the programming cable and software for the 762 and thought it would be the same between the 8 channel and the 2 channel. but when i go to plug the cable into the mic jack, the mic jack is a smaller jack. am i missing something here? does the 2 channel take different cable and software that the 8 channel does?

I'm not sure specifically about the 762, but the 730 and other 30 series used a 6 pin instead of the now-common 8-pin mic connector also. We have modified programming cables simply by cutting off the 8-pin connector and crimping on a 6-pin with the conductors in the same position relative to the center and also by simply taking a bench grinder to the plastic sides of the 8-pin until it will fit in the 6-pin hole. It still works for 8-pin radios after this has been done.

The TK-762 8 channel is the "G" version. The TK-762 "original version" does 2 channels. You figured out that the non "G" version uses a 6 pin mic. The 8 pin programming cable is electrically the same as the 6 pin cable used for the non "G" version. The two outside pins are not used for programming. You can make an adapter using an RJ-11 plug and an RJ-45 jack and strands from cat 5 cable. The TK-762 2 channel does use different software. It is DOS based software. I can not remember the version, but can look it up at home this evening. The TK-762 2 channel DOES do narrow-band channels.

To delete the PL tone go to the field and use the "delete" key on your keyboard. Press "delete" once for each number and period in the field. When the field is blank, press "enter".
