If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

TM9400 Multi-Body System Error

I am setting up a TM9400 multi-body single head system. I have everything assembled per page 16 of the TM9456 Dual-Radio Installation and Programming Guide.
The firmware is the most recent. Radios both have multi body support installed.

When I power up the system I get a system error.

I disconnected the UHF radio and was able to read and write the VHF radio.
I tried the same with the UHF radio but nothing so I swapped the body remote interfaces.
That allowed me to read and write the UHF radio. I also checked the primary radio box just in case that was necessary.

When I reassemble the whole system I am back to the system error.

Any hints?

That manual also references a "3301A2xx Dual Torso Programming Application" but nobody seems to know where to find that.
It is possible that the NTID's are not set correctly but there is no mention of where to check those or how to change them.

Funny enough I'm having the same issue. The TM9456 works fine on custom dual body firmware but soon as I put standard 3.0 firmware onto the dual brick I get system error or Torso not found.

Ended up rolling back to the custom firmware

I was able to find the screen that lets you check & change the NTIDs.
As suspected the NTID for both radio bodies was the same and changing one fixed the problem.

The one thing that I am not fond of is that you need to edit both programs such that the info for the control head
is identical otherwise you may end up totally baffled if you write them in reverse order and the last one overwrites
what you thought you had set up. Allowing the option of writing to the control head or saving that data in a
different file might be more user friendly options for the dual band configuration.

What is the custom firmware? Both of my radio bodies have V3.x firmware in them.
