Just heard from reliable source that Newfoundland, at least the island part, will be joining the 700 MHz TMR system that already covers Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. It will be Zone 3 of the system, and will include RCMP, RNC, Health.. the latter I guess is ambulances...

I know it was announced over 1 year ago that St. John's Regional Fire Dept. was upgrading their system to a new digital system. Perhaps it will be an expansion of the MPSRN. I haven't heard anything like this but it would be beneficial.

One interesting thing about systems like this is that a portable in St John's will be able to talk to one in Edmundston, NB, crystal clear. Not that there would be much use for such a thing. I am not actually sure of what the advantage will be of having it be part of the Maritimes system, as there is basically no possibility of mutual aid type situations due to the Cabot Strait being in the way! We do get NL water bombers here in NS sometimes but aircraft are not on TMR, other than a very few exceptions.

Another day, and a bit more info So this new system will cover the populated areas of the island of Newfoundland, as well as the main centres of Labrador. The initial plan is for 124 sites. Should replace whatever the RCMP, RNC and Health now have someday down the line with the provincial government system as well.

I had the topic pinned so it doesn't get lost.

Feel free to continue sharing info as it becomes available. We'll use this thread for any new TMR development in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The aim is for the Avalon Peninsula to be done first, maybe in 2023. The rest will take a lot longer. Looks like Labrador will be the bigger centres only and not like chains of sites along the connecting highways.

Good to know, thanks for the info!

Are any of the sites reporting a System ID?

If you program in the control channels for the sites you are receiving, and put it in "ID Search" rather than "ID Scan" it will find any active talkgroups.

The scanner will do it for you. Program each control channel into a separate group with ID search on and the scanner will do the rest.
You will then have IDs, the rest is detective work.
