He's referring to 99.1 WHFS broadcasting from DC. At noon today, they switched callsigns and format, and 99.1 is now a Spanish-language station. Their morning show was on regularly, and there was no mention of the change until about 11:58AM. No last memorable song, no sap, just a new station ID at 1200 and the new music.

There are no plans to move 99.1 to another part of the spectrum owned by the company. Rumor says WRNR out of Annapolis will have a format change to a relaxed version of what WHFS was.

99.1 is now "ElZol 991" "Siempre de Fiesta!".

Wow...end of an era. I remember when they were on 102.3 and located in [what's now] downtown Bethesda. Geez. I feel old. Had to dig up an FM radio and hear it for myself - Haven't listened to the [FM broadcast] radio in forever. Had friends who used to Dj there...Pogo, Cerf. Here's a brief history for anyone who cares. They really did help shape the alternative music scene in DC early on: http://www.tangentsunset.com/whfs.htm

I was watching FOX 5 news last night "which came on after the game @11pm" well anyway alot of people are really angry about it,so angry people were out there in front of the station holding signs like they were on strike...I think those station owners were stupid, they got awards for having such a good radio station and stuff and they done away with it...

Truth is, Commerical Radio Stations are buisinesses. If Arbitron ratings are consistently poor, advertisers take their money elsewhere.

Truth= Lobbying in the commercial sector+Greeeed. Radio is a true presentation here. To me every one liked the stations if it is not broke don't fix it.

I am beginning to dislike commercial radio any more anyway. Take $500.00 buy a life time membership to xm and buy a sat radio. The hell with the subliminal commercial same song lobbying BS that it all is.

The truth is you have to buy radio any more. Money indeed talks. If you want it. Buy it! A sat receiver or a broadcasting center.

And that...is...the...TRUTH!!!

Format changes are rough. It hurts to see people let go. Some will relocate to other markets. We have 3 stations at this facility and the sales staff of a 4th. There's still plenty of work for engineers.
