The extremely low price does raise some red flags, such as it being stolen. Or, it could have been a gift and the seller just wants to get rid of it. Who knows. Wonder why the price on the yellow tag is $300?

I would definitely recommend meeting in a very public place with lots of people around.

I wouldn't touch this with a 160 meter dipole. Apart from the assumptions above, could have issues beyond what has been discussed here previously. On the flip side it could be an owner that can't understand the programming (and we know we've seen plenty of that)

Too many red flags

I say there's a sucker born every minute. Don't be one of them. If you were to meet this person they know you have cash in your pocket, you probably won't even make it to the inside of the diner, he will rob you in the parking lot. There won't be any scanner of course.😄😄😄.

If you have to ask, you already know the answer.

Any time that little red light starts flashing in the corner of your eye, you should pay attention to it.

Sure, there's a chance you could miss out on the deal of the century, but there's also a chance this can go completely sideways. "Deal too good to be true" usually are. Facebook marketplace is a known refuge of people that are happy to take advantage of you and relieve you of your money.

Picture you provided shows the box, a post-it note and nothing else. No picture of a working unit? No accessories? Personally I'd avoid shelling out $300 for an empty box and a post-it but that might just be me :poop:

i did meet someone years ago (2010) to buy what they thought was a pro97 for $25.
worked fine for weather and local trunked set to conventional on 800.
so it passed my test.
when i got home i found out it was a pro164, a better deal.
the seller was a defense lawyer and he took it of a $25 fee as part of a bigger fee.
i still have it and use it about once a week with all the little road work being done around here
it is my FRS/GMRS/MURS/CCR radio now.
i am a bit tall and many folks say i "look like a cop" so i have that going for me.
be safe !

I particularly enjoy the fact that you posted this, it's a fairly cyclic topic.. it's usually a website, it is very suspicious and strange to meet in person.

Yes, please don't do this of course but I remember on one of these similar numerous threads with the same topic someone actually did send money or credit card. He actually got an acknowledgment, and shipping information. He followed it on his phone, it took a couple of days.

When the package finally arrived it was a plastic whistle. But the shipping process was enough time for the website to be long gone. I gather he disputed the credit card charge, the account was probably closed by then. I don't know.. but I don't think I ever remember anyone else ever falling for a scam like this, especially in person.

There are some good deals out there. I know someone who bought a couple of sds100 for $200.00, brand new, still in box. They worked perfectly, no issues.

And they didn't fall off the truck? Unless there was proof in the form of a receipt that seller purchased them, I would always have suspicions that they were stolen.

Not too many people keep their receipts...
Sometimes you run into people who do not know what their relatives have and don't bother to look it up. I have bought many things from family members of sk's. The relatives just want to get rid of things and and sometimes give some excellent deals. Something like a TM-710 when they were new for $120. ATAS 20 antenna $100 etc. These are just a few.
