Hi
I am looking for the listening frequencies for the Sheraton Gateway at the airport in Toronto. Also what are the frequencies that the security at the airport use. I am not sure if I want to travel with my R-5 (which is hard to program without having the computer with me) or to bring my basic Uniden 72XLT.
Cheers

Airport security is on the Peel Region trunk system. Look for CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency).

According to TAFL (the Canadian version of the US FCC license lookup), Gateway is most likely 463.9625, if it's on Caroga Drive. There are more frequencies on the same license for another location very close to downtown (near the SkyDome - errr, sorry, Rogers Center): 452.0625, 452.3625, 452.8125, 462.825, and 463.85. All appear to be simplex.

You'll need the Peel Region Trunk System:

Policing is either on 21 Division or Airport Division depending on how busy it is. If it's not busy, 21 Division and the Airport Division will be patched together. Listen for the "Airport" callsigns on either talkgroup.

Also put in the GTAA talkgroups as they handle the safety aspect (medical, fire calls) of the airport. Mississauga FS also responds to major incidents at the airport so it might be handy to have their talkgroups available as well.

RCMP supposedly have a talkgroup on this system but all activity I've ever has been encrypted.

Most other airport ops are on an Iden system which isn't monitorable.

Somebody did report that CATSA was carrying GE portables but nobody has ever reported a frequency for them. Not sure I've seen any of them carrying radios.

CBSA is also on the Peel system but they just screen arriving passengers and cargo. Very boring and not really security related.

The GTAA talkgroups are probably your best bet. You'll hear most of the airport action there.

The CATSA folks in Calgary do have radios, but I haven't been close enough to see what ones they are; however, I have monitored their licensed freq from about 3 miles away from the airport terminal, and it's a rather weird transmission. It's in the clear, but during a transmission, the audio cuts out & in on a regular basis. The users don't seem to notice it, and I have yet to hang out close enough to learn more about it. One of these days, I'll make a recording and post it on the site.

All of that is irrelevant anyway, I guess, since there is no Toronto-area license for CATSA.

Not to nitpick, but security at the Airport isn't on the Peel system, it's on the Fleetcom Harmony 900MHz iDEN system. The guys on vcomm are ASOs, GSOs, Terminal Specialists, TSM officers and that kind of thing.

The actual "security" guys (CATSA, CBSA, Garda, etc...) are on Harmony.

CATSA don't have EDACS radios, they have r750s - at Pearson anyhow.

It depends on how you define security.

There's the screening of outgoing passengers by CATSA who are on the iden system and incoming by CBSA who are on the Peel system.

There's the policing of the airport which is done by Peel Regional Police Service on the Peel system who I would consider as providing the "real" security at the airport.
