• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Ok so i work in construction industry and mostly everyone has there own walkie talkie on this jobsite , Baofeg or Motorola's.
On receiving my new ham radio i did a factory reset (for some newbie reason ) and lost all my data. Now after watching tons of videos on YouTube and reading through the forums here i figured out how input and scan frequencies but i can not broadcast or transmit to anyone on the jobsite. The Motorola channel number is 6 , which i set to listen or scan. But can't figure out how to communicate? Can someone help me out please?

I would recommend using the CHIRP software to program this radio. Miklor.com also has more information about this radio and manually programming it, but programming via a computer is much easier.

At risk of beating a dead horse, I just want to give you a quick FYI: this radio is a poor choice for your application. This is an amateur radio, and is not intended for use in a commercial application. It is in fact illegal to use the radio on the frequencies you are intending as it lacks the necessary certification from the FCC. Now, will federal agents kick down your door for using this radio in the FRS/GMRS band your job site? Probably not. But you do risk causing interference to other licensed and legal radio users. I just want you to be aware of the laws and rules around two way radio so you can make an informed decision. If communication on your jobsite is an issue, I would recommend talking to the supervisor rather than deploying your own ad-hoc solution, especially in a jobsite where safety is critical.

I totally understand what you're saying and appreciate it. As i mentioned I've been doing a ton of reading here on the forums, a few Guys or co workers have them and they're statements are much like the ones here, the radio are legal, the radios are not legal. In all reality and with respect i have use the chirp software, i just can't figure out how to set it to communicate. Obviously getting amateur licence for is a ways away but something worth having. For now i need help setting up to communicate, which i would crawling before i can start walking toward a license.

Listen and scan are "receiving" . Communicate implies two way comms which means you need to set it up to receive and to "transmit"

And the problem is there are too many people that have no clue of radios and proper use, proper license. proper frequencies that are screwing up licensed users!
