got to watch two KPD cruisers in the parking lot of a local business take someone away in cuffs tonight and their vehicle got towed. I didn't want to get too close so I couldn't see what the name of the towing company was, but the cab of the tow was red all over. I'd like to listen to any comms the tow people might have. Does KPD and KCSO have a standard go-to company that they use to tow vehicles or does it vary?

KPD uses a zone system in which a primary tow provider for each zone is called first. I'm unsure of where zone boundaries are or how many zones exist. The tower must adhere to a schedule of rates and respond if called. The same towing co.must also tow disabled city-owned vehicles in his zone. KPD will also honour "owner's request" provided there is no hold on the vehicle and the owner or operator is able to make such a request. Some towing companies have discontinued doing city business rather than adhere to a contract rate.
Knox County-don't know if they use a rotation system for specific patrol zones or not.

In the past a short distant tow was well over $300 as the then sheriff/police chief got a kick back on all tows. Sure hope this has changed.
