• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I did some googling, navigated the new-ish MOL site and found the entitlement key (hkvn4046a). They want $5 for it and no video to watch. I don't care about the money unless there's something I'm missing.

It was free up until relatively recently according to my google searches.

I feel that they don't care about the $5 either – it's probably a loss for them to do the transaction at that price. The point is probably to get you to agree to use it lawfully.

And there's probably some fine print regarding your first-born child, too.

Should a dealer work for free?
that was likey 1/2 hour min service.
whats the problem?
Things like this always remind me of a specific repair I did probably 30 years ago. Maxon portable came in, wouldn't turn on. Replaced the fuse, tuned and aligned, $35 labor and $5 for the fuse. Customer was steaming mad when he saw it was only a fuse and said he could have replaced that. Our response was why didn't you? His response was he didn't know it was the fuse. Our response was you’re paying for our knowledge, not just the physical labor. He still wasn't happy.

It's probably to get around us having to watch a video.

And lots of people paid him the $ because it’s not as easy as you think. One has to create an account, one has to wait, & wait, & wait, & finally if the stars align, the account is granted. Of course if one already has the account, wait times will be less. Then one has to apply for the EID. People have waited a month, vs send the guy the $, & get the EID the next day. .

Just a reminder to all, don't waste your time/money to buy the wideband entitlement if you intend to add it to CPS16, you can no longer enable any entitlements in CPS16, Moto shut that server down permanently.

Now you tell us! :p

But yes, we both went through this around the same time as I remember.
