• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

TRC-431 sound quality: no bass

I've hooked up my Realistic TRC-431 to use after selling my Cobra to finance some other stuff, and have noticed that the sound on the TRS-431 very different then the Cobra had, very little bass, what I hear is understandable, but sounds like a radio that has the bass turned all the way down. Is this normal for a TRC-431? or sound I look in to fixing it? perhaps a dead capacitor in the audio amp section..?

Many times CBers would replace mike elements to get more or better "audio"! I would check there first.

I pulled the cover and checked the speak, seems fine, but it kind of small. I suspect it just a design limitation of the radio because it's so small compared to most base radios. No obvious signs of blown capacitors either. I found a old Motorola external speaker I forgot about and tried that and there's a noticeable improvement in bass, so it's probably just how that radio is. Can't complaint too much, I only paid $10 for the radio and all I had to do was replace the meter light. The mic alone is worth what I paid for it:)

There should be aftermarket speakers the same size available that are much better than 'ol stock'.
