• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

TRC-465 no modulation...wrong mic?

I have a TRC-465 that transmits/receives but doesn't seem to modulate. I have 2 "Realistic" mics, both did the same thing. I did pop open the radio and I don't see anything loose...all the contacts have continuity through a little board right behind the mic connector and to the 3 wires that come out of the board.
But I see that this particular mic wasn't what was originally with the 465, it was the sort of square mic with the "RS" on the front(these seem to be on most models of that era). I thought these mics were basically interchangeable, but perhaps they aren't?
Checking the model number of the mic I have looks like it was to a TRC-479 https://cbtricks.org/radios/realistic/trc_479/graphics/realistic_trc_479_sm_pg35_36_sch.pdf
But this doesn't look like the "RS" square type https://cbtricks.org/mic_manuals/realistic/realistic_21_1172_mic.pdf
Maybe that's the issue?

I've owned a number of Realistic CB radios over the years, and they all had the 5-pin DIN plug for the microphones. I could swap mics between a Realistic Navaho from the 70's with one made in the 90's and never had any issues.

I looked at the TRC-465. It appears to be a Uniden PC-122 with Realistic/Radio Shack badging. It uses a 5-pin DIN plug, though, like all other Realistic CB's of that time.

I'm not sure what the issue is with your radio, but since you tried two different Realistic mics, I doubt it is a mic issue. Sorry I could not be of more help

I pretty much figured that was the case but was hoping otherwise.
Guess I’ll have to dig around some more.
