Hello, I have a pro-97 and have the usb cable to program all my frequencies just in time before my trip. I was wondering if there are any frequencies or websites that have a lot of frequencies so I can enjoy tuning in on my way to yosemite. Thanks in advance.

I'm busy as a one arm paper hanger with my pants falling down. However, I should be able to respond to you in a day or so with most of what you need. There have been some changes to the frequency program the Park Service uses at Yosemite, however, I don't have access to the information anymore due to homeland security issues. I will give you the best info I have and it should be fairly useful.

168.350S traffic control at Wawona for bridge const.

Arrrgh, I just worked on a response for about 1.5 hours and either RR's computer or mine dropped my submission. I don't have time to write it again today. Sorry.

Real quick.

172.775 Fire Net
172.650 Park Net
166.300 Valley Net

The Park and Valley Nets are used by all functions, those being protection rangers (law enforcement), resource mangement (some Park Rangers, wildlife biologists, foresters, forestry techs and aids, hazard tree crews, archeaologists, etc.), interpretation (Park Rangers and techs involved in visitor centers, nature walks, campfire programs, auditorium presentations, etc.), and maintenance (roads, sewers, water systems, plumbing, electrical, buildings, etc.). Trail crews work for the backcountry unit which is part of protection I believe. The fire net is used by the fire management folks only. It also may be used for medicals in the backcountry when fire's helicopter is used for evacuation. The other two nets are very busy and this may relieve traffic on them. Mick's post seems to imply this.

The latest I heard is that the protection rangers had a international phonetic callsign by Ranger District and a number assigned. Bravo was backcounty, Tango was Tuolumne, Bravo was Big Oak Flat, Whiskey was Wawona, Victor was Valley, and Echo was El Portal. Sierra was assigned to Park headquarters protection personnel. I heard that some changes in boundaries and possible consolidation of Ranger Districts was going to occur, but I haven't heard the latest.

I belive the Park's project net and air to ground have changed from what I had in early 2005. There have also been rumors, one from a Park Ranger I spoke with in the backcountry in 2002 that the Park would be getting its own law enforcement net. The access to this infomation is now restricted and the annual listing for 2006, something I had access to every year since I retired, is no longer available to me.

I did not get over to the Park last year at all, the first time in a very long time. I don't have recent validation of much of the data I have.

I had a better reply to this thread but lost it and don't have time to rewrite it. I had channels and repeater tones for the Park, the Sierra and Stanislaus National Forests, as well as for the concessionaire. I may not have time to put that info together a second time.

You lucky dog.

Here's some older freq info for concessioners and such... I know most of the VHF-high frequencies are still good, and generally busy. I believe the former "Yosemite Concession Services Corp" is now "Delaware North." For decades it was the venerable Yosemite Park & Curry Company.

As of last year, or maybe even earlier, all high band above 163 MHz I think were narrowbanded. All federal basically.

Are those going - or gone to - narrowband yet, do you know? Thanks.

I don't know since I cannot get the latest information anymore. Once I get over there and monitor I will be able to tell, of course. My wife and I plan to camp at Yosemite Creek campground, about an hour from our house, and not leave the campground during our visit. She wants to read a book and I want to do the same while having the scanner going to figure out the Park's radio and callsign system. Yosemite Creek campground has not opened yet following the above average winter experienced in the Sierra.

The licenses for the lowband system have been terminated. They were used for communication with the High Sierra Camps, which are walk in camps spaced out about 8-10 miles apart, providing meals and tent cabins. I would assume that the addition of a cell phone site on Mt. Hoffman a few years back made this system obsolete.

I'm interested to find out how the remote base on Sentinel Dome on 151.805 is used as none of the rest of the frequencies are licensed for a remote base. It doesn't make sense for it to be used just for the Awhanee Hotel as a remote base at the rim of the valley would not be needed to cover the hotel. I guess I'm just going to have to monitor this frequency and figure it out.

The amateur repeater on 147.000 is located on Sentinel Dome and I show a tone of 100.0 required. I've used this system when I've been there. Riding mountain bikes around the valley in the spring and fall on a weekday is a lot of fun. There is a repeater on Joaquin Ridge near Colalinga that can be linked by its owner/operator to the Sentinel Dome/Mt Bullion repeaters. I've talked on it from Minaret Vista near Mammoth Mountain.

Thanks Harry for the information about the business radio use in Yosemite. I will use it as a good starting point whenever we get to camp at Yosemite Creek this summer. If we don't get a chance for the weekend trip, driving to Olmstead Point on the Tioga road only takes about 50 minutes from here and I can easily monitor simplex use in the Yosemite Valley from there.

Yep, the "radius" searches can be great for finding unusual freqs, or for licensees whose names may be misspelled. I've seen a list somewhere of a dozen or more ways "California, State of" is either misspelled or written out a little differently.

That one's got to be a typo error in their database - the Base station is 151.805, but the 65 mobiles are shown as 151.808. All with 20K0F3E emission.

Yeah it has to be a typo because radios will not do .808. The steps would go, at the narrowest, .808, .81125, .8175, etc. That is using a .00625 step. However it would be more likely to be a .0125 step or even .025 depending on the radios.

Fish Camp is on Highway 41 south of the south entrance to the Park. I doubt you would even receive the Tenaya Lodge in Wawona, which is about the most southerly place to stay while in the Park.
