Officers Injured, Suspect In Custody

POSTED: 12:12 pm MDT May 29, 2006
SILVERTHORNE, Colo. -- Two law enforcement officers were injured in a high-speed chase and several crashes along Interstate 70 early Monday.

A 46-year-old Grand Junction woman was arrested after the chase, according to the Summit Daily News.

Colorado State patrol officers initially responded at 2:20 a.m. to reports of a vehicle heading west in the eastbound lane of I-70, Colorado State Patrol Capt. Ron Prater told the newspaper.

"Two officers responded and located the vehicle in an unauthorized area near the (Eisenhower) tunnel. They were in contact with her for a few minutes," Prater was quoted as saying.

The driver then fled through the tunnel, reaching speeds of 130 mph, before exiting at Silverthorne and smashing through a fence.

Prater said a state patrol officer and a Silverthorne police officer were slightly injured in crashes during the chase. The female driver was also injured.

According to the News, the woman's driving privileges were under restriction as a habitual traffic offender.
