• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I need some help. I am trying to read a fleet of radios. They are all TK-7180. I cannot find a straight answer to which software to use. I tried every software I could find including:

KPG-89D
KPG-89DN
KPG-92D

In each of these software's I get the same error. "Check connection and COM port settings"

I am using a cable I have for the 5x20 series radios... Is this the proper cable?

Thanks in advance.

have you tried taking a RS232 cable, plug it into the back of the radio and reading it?
(DB25 to db9 to usb/bd9 port)
KPG-89D or DN is for the x180 series if it is not passport.

KPG-46, 46U, or 46XM is the mobile cable you want to use

What does the radio show when you power it up? ("SEARCHING..." mean PASSPORT)

Do you get anything when you do a "tool/transceiver info"

What firmware is in the radio when you press and hold the S and PWR ON (I think thats the key or the "A" key)

As far as access to the back of the radio, I do not have that. They are mounted in patrol cars and to get to the back would be near impossible.

The KPG-46 is the cable that I have. When the radio turns on, it goes right to the conventional channel it is set to. I do not know how to do a tool/transceiver info.

Will check firmware.

That's a NX-x00 OR a tk-5x20 (P25) you need 111DN or 112(p25) for that.
if there is a label it will be top center on the upper side of the face (run your finger along the top, if you feel a sticker,
chances are it's a NX radio., P25 sticker is to the far left above the power button.
