Apologies if this is a dumb question, but is there a 'how to' thread somewhere on setting up trunking on this radio?

The local systems are MPT1327 in VHF and UHF, and I can find around 6 or 7 control channels with a search.

I am using TrunkView software, which finds them, but I am unsure if TrunkView will drive the radio so I can track trunked systems - it doesn't seem to, even though I have successfully interfaced it with the radio via the serial port.

The radio can apparently track them, but I have no idea how to set it up to do so, and the instructions leave something to be desired.

Can anyone help? I've spent two evenings unsuccessfully searching the internet for info, and am failing miserably trying to second guess the Bearcat's programming system!

I have been getting really wound up trying to programme this ***** thing! Tried the same methods on both the UBC780 and the UBC3300, and am sick of getting error messages.

Then I found this on a Uniden PDF...

"Note that there are several system types that cannot be monitored. These are identified as:
 EDACS w/ESK
 LTR Passport
 OpenSky Standard
 MPT1327
 Tetra"

Is this still true? MPT1327 is unmonitorable? I can hear voice on some of the frequencies, but neither scanner seems to know what to do with the control channel.

Tempted to throw the scanners off the roof and take up golf...

No scanner is able to trunktrack MPT1327. You can conventionally scan the frequencies and hear the analog audio.

Have you even bothered going to the two web-pages I posted above. The original TrunkView was written for the UBC780, and it still works well with it. Program a Control Channel frequency into Channel 500 of the UBC780, and follow the instructions on those two websites, and you should be monitoring MPT1327 before the day is out.

No scanner is able to trunktrack MPT1327. You can conventionally scan the frequencies and hear the analog audio.

If you have 2 radio receivers with a computer with the proper software and one of the radios is supported by that computer software for changing frequencies you can trunk track a MPT-1327 TRS.

A radio with a discriminator tap tuned to the MPT-1327 Control Channel.
The audio from the radio tuned to the control channel to the computer Microphone or line in connector.
On the computer set the line in or Mic in audio to an adequate level.
Connect the supported tracking radio to the serial port and properly set up the baud rate on the radio.
Start the software on the computer, set up the audio in settings in the computer software and set up the serial port port and speed for the supported tracking radio.

For a list of MPT-1327 software decoding see this web page

If you use TrunkView, you only require a single PC controllable scanner, such as a UBC780.

A radio with a discriminator tap tuned to the MPT-1327 Control Channel.
TrunkView uses normal Speaker / Earphone Audio, and a Discriminator Tap is NOT required.

I was attempting to do it scanner only, not connected to the laptop, hence my irritation. But anyway, thanks for jumping to conclusions ;-)

I did skim read one of the sites, but the other wasn't working at the time. Thanks for the links.
