When I change my batteries in the scanner and go to turn it on, "Init SD Filesys" comes up. Any help is appreciated. Have a great day. -Dave

Hi, Mr. Buchanan. That is normal operation, isn't it? I have three Whistler TRX receivers and they all display that, along with a percentage progress, every time I start them up.

Or, do you mean to say, that displays and never completes?

It just shows that code. I have to take the batteries out several times before it finally boots up correctly. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like there may be a problem with the SD card, I would first try (through EZ Scan and computer) to reformat the card (Prepare For Use in Scanner) and copy the configuration and library back on it. If the problem continues replace the SD card.

It's way faster to remove the SD card from the radio and use an adapter of sorts to plug into the computer. The USB cable interface in the radio is crazy slow when copying files to and from radio. The down side is ya hafta take the cover off the radio to get the SD card out.

Also, I've found that losing power suddenly to the radio - like having it powered via USB port in a car that that only has power when the key is on will kill an SD card quick.

TRX scanners always do that at power on and it checks the filesystem on the SD card for free space and the integrity of the files. I don't know how you managed to bypass that process.

I think he meant that it was hanging on the init screen and he had to depower/repower multiple times to get it to pass that and boot. Dying or corrupt SD card would be my guess too.

Funny, sometime after reading this thread yesterday, my TRX-1 gave me a 3-03 Code. I reformatted the SD card and had EZ-Scan put everything back on to it. No Problems since. It was a first SD card issue for me, just found it humorous it came after reading this lol.
Always have a spare too!

I have had cards that would need reformatted every 6-8 weeks but never failed, just finally got tired of messing with them and replaced. And I had one other that was rock solid for some years and countless reloads and one day when I went to turn the scanner on...boom, dead, couldn't even begin a format on it. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason but having spares is definitely a good idea.
