I'm new, be gentle.
Bought a NIB TRX-2 from eBay for a decent price. Unboxed, programmed, turned on no sound, tried 2 different ext speakers, still nothing. 3 pairs of headphones in the headphone jack, nothing.

Popped the case open and (see somewhat blurry photos) found what appears to be water damage on the bottom of the circuit board. Is this repairable or should I just refund and move on?

While it possibly be repairable, at least if sent to Whistler, this definitely was not a NIB radio. If you can get a refund, via the sellar with a nudge from eBay, I would do that. If the unit was had significant water damage, you could have recurring issues on down the road, even if, for now, it gets 'repaired'.

The corrosion on the circuit board is conductive and can cause the radio to malfunction. If you just bought the radio, I would also return it. I have used alcohol and a toothbrush to clean circuit boards with similar corrosion. You would probably need to unsolder the shielding to gain access to the parts of the board under the shields. If the entire radio were under water, the speaker cone could be shot.

That's what I was afraid of, I think I'll box it back up and get a refund, it was a steal at $499, I'm afraid if I exchange it'll be another with the same issue.

I think it was already causing issues, I had the corrupt SD card data error a couple of times when I plugged the cord into the computer. Save the headache and get a refund.

:) Use the 'defective' or similar when applying for a 'refund'. Ebay changed a few things in the past few years so you will have to (even if you have contacted the seller), file for a return. DO NOT TELL THE SELLER OR EBAY you opened the radio up. Just file the return and select 'defective'. You should be silent/ambiguous (until needed) about the sellers replies being it was new (if listed as new) or 'used' (radio MUST be fully functional if listed as used it should work 100% but may have cosmetic issues), when sold to you. :)

:) The 'seller' could say you broke it when you opened it. regardless of the fact you opened it because it didn't work. In the future, suppress your urge to open anything bought on ebay, it'll bite you in the rectum if they somehow 'sealed' it (like a drop of glue in a screw what would show 'broken' upon the return). Later on, if the seller balks, you 'might' have to use any pictures you garnished, that would refute anything the seller says to date (you don't have to offer that up until necessary). Good luck! :)
