Hey all - I've had a TRX-2 since they came out and I think the original card just got tired, because once a week it would corrupt and I'd have to reprogram. Got a new 2GB Transcend, since they were recommended, and I've had nothing but frustrations trying to get it to work. Per Whistler's site, I formatted it to FAT (it says to format FAT16 but I'm pretty confident that's the same thing) with 32kb clusters; as soon as I put it in the scanner and plug it up, I get the 3-01 error. Interestingly enough, when I plug it also into the laptop via USB it prompts me to format the card, which I already did using Rufus before putting it in the scanner. I try to reformat, but it's not able to complete the reformat.

I would be VERY grateful for any help you can give!! Thank you very much.

Download sdFormatter and use it to format the card to FAT16. Fat is 32 bit.

SD cards are disposable at today's prices. As soon as any of the cards I use in ANY devices show a single (hard) error....they get thrown away. If it is corrupted by a failed shutdown of a device...i'm wary. If it passes a format then I'll use it in something static and low risk, but they are disposable to me. They do not last as long as you think they should.

If you've formatted it multiple times and getting errors, you are playing with fire.

Replace it.

Don't try to change the underlying filesystem, just replace it.

He has a brand new card. Sounds like you have never used SD Card Formatter. It will place the correct file structure on it. Win 10 FAT is 32 bit, SDCard formatter will make it 16 bit. Research before opening the lips.

If for some reason it will not work, then I agree, but get a Sans Disk card next time.

I have 10 SD-Card scanners from both Whistler and Uniden. With SD Cards being so cheap I went out and bought a 16-pack of 8GB SanDisk SD Cards and created a spare for each radio. I will reformat corrupted cards once and if it fails a second time I will trash it. They are so cheap that there really is no reason to take the risk in repeated reformatting.

OK, first of all.....
It is probably a fake card. MicoCenter no longer sells anything smaller than 8 or 16 GIG
MicroCenter cards work fine. They do fail EVENTUALLY, because all SD has a limited duty cycle.
BUT they are CHEAP.
I have a few PRO-18, 668, 800, 1098 scanners. They all work just fine with cheap 32 gig cards.
There is no reason to pay a premium for a 2 GIG card. \
IMHO there is no reason to pay for a "brand name" card. The generic cards from MicroCenter work just fine. And are cheap enough, if you get a bad one, just thrown it away.

Many thanks for all the helpful replies! I'll certainly try to reformat tomorrow with SDFormatter.

I paid nine bucks for this thing on Amazon - so I hope it's not fake! Where do you all get your cards and which ones?

Again, I really appreciate the help!

Note about Rufus: You can alternate between the small fat and large fat (Not Exfat) option by toggling the "L" key.

This may or may not be appropriate for your application, so if you format with rufus again, toggle with the "L" key and see which mode you were in. It's kinda' buried in the faq, so easy to miss and accidentally toggle.

Use the format option in the EZScan software and see if that helps. I have also had cards fail if I plugged or unplugged the scanner USB power while it was scanning.

Sorry, thought he was referring to the original card in the scanner. Continue to ignore me! (y)

Well just reformatted twice with SDFormatter, unfortunately still showing Error 3-01 :( and can't even get into EZScan to use that reformat option either, unlike when I first started working on this yesterday. Would be grateful for recommendations on cheap (but real!) 2 or 4 GB Sandisks!

If you can find old Playstations memory cards on sale then those works perfect. As SD cards with lower memory sizes are less common now you can get the popular 16/32GB sizes and use a free partition program, like Mini Tool Partition Wizard, to set the size to 2GB, so you don't have to wait 5 minutes for the scanner to start up. Most antivirus programs have to be temporary disabled to do any partition work.
If you don't have a $5 USB SDcard programmer then get one as the TRX-2 own USB handling are a bit unreliable and extremly slow.

Hmm... how about the Samsung "Endurance" line of sd-cards?

I guess designed for constant video recording, like bodycams, surveillance, security cams etc where a lot of writing is happening might make them ideal for scanner recording sessions and perhaps a bit more durable when writes are always happening ...

I haven't tested one in my TRX-1, but maybe worth a shot...
