Hello, I am new to the sdr world and downloaded sdrsharp, hdsd, and the winusb driver for the rtl-sdr to get started. Now, I want to use salamandra, the microphone "bug" finding tool, and have followed the quick setup guide and can not figure out how to get the rtl_test command to run using Windows 10?
Hello, leatherneck22; welcome to the forum.
I am also new to this forum, but have been a member of 4 other forums for about 12 years helping with reception problems.
Some of my latest experiments have been with an RTL-SDR.COM V3 dongle and SDRsharp.
Have you used your SDR with SDRsharp yet?
In order to be able to use an RTL-SDR dongle with SDRsharp, it is necessary to click on install-rtlsdr. This will download many items into the same folder including rtl_power and rtl_test.
If you use rtl_test, it is necessary to have your SDR connected to your computer USB port. I was able to find rtl_test in my computer because it is visible in SDRsharp v1715. However, when I use a later version of SDRsharp v1732, it doesn't show because it is buried in a lower layer of the software. It would take a windows terminal to reach it. But, no matter which version of SDRsharp software you have, it will still show if you have rtl_test and rtl_power when you click on install-rtlsdr.
Most of the salamandra instructions show it being run in a Linux shell. I am not familiar with Linux, but I think I might be able to run it in Windows Terminal if I can learn more of the commands.
The only experience I have with GitHub software is with the RTL-SDR scanner software for a spectrum analyzer.
