Hi

Can i put 2 antennas on same mast and what distance between the two antennas?

I want to put my dpd LP scanner yagi antenna and my diamond discone on my chemney and want to install it right.

and can i combine the two antenna with only 1 coax?

I made a litte drawing to show what i want to do.

You might want to reconsider that install plan... An antenna on a chimney is not a good idea. I don't think you can combine two antennas into one coax without a remote antenna switch.

Most brick chimney mounts tend to destroy the chimney with time. They are not made to take
the constant vibration and movement that a mast transmits to it. The larger the weight load and
torque, the faster the damage shows up. There have been a number of photos posted where
the damaged chimney has come down and done major damage to the roof where it hit.

You can do as you please, but now you have been fore warned of the future.

As mentioned,I would not recommend using your chimney and explore other avenues.
However you could mount your discone above your yagi on the same mast with a few feet between the discone's bottom elements, and the upper elements on your yagi saving you some hardware?
I would definitely suggest investing in low-loss feedline from both antennas!! A switch wouldn't hurt either.
Belden 9913 flex would work well for your beam.

Not to mention would you want your antenna and coax that close to a high heat source such as your chimney? Unless you never use your fireplace.

I don't use the fireplace, that's why i want to mount my antenna on the chemney.

the other alternative i would like to do is to mount a tower beside the house (bracket tower) because I don't want guy wire all over the place.

But I can't find any place in Quebec Province that provide this kind of tower and the only place I found is in Ontario but didn't offer delivery for this items.

Do you have suggestion for antenna tower?

thanks

This is my antenna switch. It's worth the $50-low loss and great mil standard quality. The center connector reciever is where, in your case, the radio's coax will go-the other two will be the antennas (in my case it's one antenna, two radios).

Hi

I've looked for tower but its too pricey for me with currency change and shipping in Canada (2500$).

I know you guys told me not to mount my mast on the chimney but how about a chimney mounting kit?
I saw a kit with strap that wrap around the chimney, is it better?

For the coax, the local supplier only have lmr-400 or RG-6 cable, so even if the LMR400 is rigid, I will go with it to minimize the lost, I have approx 125 feet's between the antenna and my shack .

I tried to find a flag pole but no luck for now. the only other solution is a tripod mast to put on the roof but not sure if it will look good.

I have 3 antennas mounted on one mast at 40'(the mast height)

I live in a ranch style house so my roof peak is only 15' off the ground.
Putting 25' above the house.

I am using 1 1/2" rigid conduit(galvanized) from Home Depot ($10.00 for 10')

This conduit is bolted to the eve at the peak with a steel strap.

I have NO guy wires and we get decent winds here in NE ohio
but the conduit is holding up just fine with 3 antennas on it.

At the ground i have 3 bricks stacked on top of each other and the mast is in the center
section of the three bricks, i then filled the holes in the bricks with loose gravel mixed with some dirt.

Might not be ideal and might not be approved by some, but I did not want to poor concrete.

Just some ideas for you.

Running 2 antennas from a single coax, is Not the way to go.
run a separate coax for each antenna if you want the best performance
out of the antennas.

How old is the chimney? If it looks structurally sound you will be fine mounting the wrap around mount.
I had one up in my other house for 10 to 11 years and was perfect. Had a Antron 99 plus, a Diamond discone and a 2 meter ham antenna all mounted together on one mast, never failed the Canadian winters here.

Moved into this house then made the Tilt-Over Mast:cool:. Where abouts in Canada our you?

Good Luck
P.S Like others have said, run seperate cable for each antenna if you can.

If the OP is looking for a tower he/she needs to troll around the on-line ham swap shops. There are always used towers for sale, sometimes for free.

The Kitchener-Waterloo Amateur Radio Club is one swap that comes to mind. Others can be found in the swap shop listings on the Radio Amateurs of Canada website.

I'm not too keen on the cheap crap wall brackets they make these days either but tripods come in all flavors. For something as light as you propose one for TV antenna work would do the trick, on the other hand there are some that will hold large HF beams so choose your poison. Just make sure of your roof construction and use the proper length and diameter lag bolts, make sure you're not screwing into thin air. Lastly, a gob of roofing cement under and over each foot makes for a good seal, the pads they supply really don't tickle my fancy.
