Two Contra Costa firefighters, one the captain and the other the engineer, died trying to rescue a couple in a burning home. Their was a sudden explosion of flame in a "flash over" that killed the two fire fighters and the couple as well. It is tough to hear about these incidents, which I first learned about on the local CDF frequency when it was announced that flags are to be lowered to half mast at all CALFIRE facilities and badge shrouds are authorized.
