I think this in an ongoing policy. It does make more sense to have the federal stuff on the statewide page, as federal frequency use is not restricted to cities or counties like public safety systems.

True it makes it easier to find/search for those wide-area LE and response agencies

but then there are some where they impact one county/city location, which does make a point for being in a local slot too
And unless they input an area of the State, how does one know that 162.3500 in Eastern Mass is on the Cape of Cod but 162.3500 [same tone] is also used in Western Mass but by a different agency or RA.... thoughts to ponder

And before anyone asks 162.3500 was made up for this disucssion :)

They appear to only be doing this for certain areas or there are different rules for different db admins.
There are still lots of county pages with federal listings.

I wonder why they were moved in the first place? The database Administrators Handbook clearly states this...

Federal and Military frequencies shall be treated like any other data; unless a frequency or system is truly regional or statewide in nature, frequencies shall be listed under the county in which the facility in question is located, listed under a Federal agency page for that county. If a Federal or Military facility spans part of two or more counties, the county which contains the majority of the facility shall be considered the "home" county and the GPS range set appropriately.

These moves seem to be made by one specific DB Admin. This consolidation does not appear to be happening in all states. Spot checking California, the statewide page has mainly 'statewide' or 'regional' listings. But the individual counties I glanced at still have their 'local' data.

He's also made a few questionable updates to other systems that don't seem to be an improvement. It's to the point that if it's a system type he's prone to meddle with, I'll pass on submitting any new data.

So now if you use the Uniden Sentinel database and look for federal entries under Bexar County you only have a few "unidentified" listings. You have to go to "Statewide", then "Texas Federal" and look for the ones that might be in Bexar County.

Fortunately I don't import from Sentinel much, but this is a mess.

Look at the Harris County Federal page.
All the Houston/Harris County Federal listings are there it appears.

Now look at Dallas County.
The only thing 'Federal' is mentioned is the FCI facility in Seagoville.

The Dallas Federal Reserve bank has been exiled to the Texas Federal page, even though that listing is for the one bank. But it lis listed on the Harris County Federal page as the header for the two frequencies used in the Houston area. On the state's federal page, there are blank headers for El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio.

For Tarrant County, the two federal' medical facilities, at Carswell and at the Ft. Worth FCI location, are not listed on the Tarrant County page, other than being in the list of trunked systems in the county. There is no Federal page for Tarrant, and the two medical sites are not listed with Hospitals in the county.

As I've said, what's the point in submitting information on anything that is going to be moved to parts unknown.

You're not the only one. There's a number of people I personally know of on the site, myself included, who refuse to submit west of the Mississippi River for that exact one reason. This is a problem that I know the senior admins are aware of cause of interactions I've had with them about this admin and this problem.

Folks, here is what I'm going to do to handle this issue.

1) I'll be working directly with the admin team to address the requirements for following policy and taking actions to make sure this doesn't happen again.

2) We're going to work today to revert all the changes and get these federal entries congruent with our administration policy which is:

Federal and Military frequencies shall be treated like any other data; unless a frequency or system is truly regional or statewide in nature, frequencies shall be listed under the county in which the facility in question is located, listed under a Federal agency page for that county. If a Federal or Military facility spans part of two or more counties, the county which contains the majority of the facility shall be considered the "home" county and the GPS range set appropriately.

2020-12-17

  • Section 6.2.2, Statewide or Multi-County Frequencies - added clarification that Federal and Military information shall be listed in the county in which a facility is located, under a Federal agency page for that county, unless it is truly regional or statewide in nature.

3) It's kind of ridiculous to "refuse to submit data" because of the actions of the admin team. Let's not do that. Be patient with the admin team and the leadership - the admins are a volunteer team that mean well, and they are human, so there will always be cases where things do work properly. I'm committed to getting things fixed and on target. Everyone has good intentions, there is no malicious intent.

Thanks everyone.

OK, I've now personally fixed Texas Federal... so now you can start submitting all that withheld info. 🤣

We're working internally today with the admin team to get things back on track.
