I've read the two other threads I found on this and think I understand how this should be programmed. Maybe.

College Station uses the CS site for the most part.
Bryan uses the Bryan site for the most part.
TAMU uses Hensel Park for the most part.
County wide agencies use whatever they affiliate with.

I'm considering two different program options, but if folks have other ideas I'm all ears.

1) Program these as three separate systems, with with the primary sites programmed in and each agency programmed in all three cities just in case they affiliate with one other than their "home" site. Home site being my term, I know that's not the technical term.

2) Program is as one system with all five sites and all agencies in as different Departments. That's probably easier, but it seems like it will be a very busy FL, but it's pretty much how I have Travis County programmed.

We'll mostly be going there for day trips a few times a year, but I still figure I can program it with fewer Agencies and Talk Groups than the RRDB has. I'm leaning toward Option 2.

Or maybe I'm just overthinking the heck out of this.

It’s easiest to program all the sites and just separate the departments in your FL. Make CSPD and CSFD into their own departments, BPD and BFD, and so on. They’ll pop up on any of the sites they deem as strongest RSSI. I get CSPD on Anderson, Navasota, Washington, N Brazos, etc. depending on who has their radio where. I guess lots of their officers/rank live out of town and can’t turn off work.

Maybe @KG1ADP can help, but I believe the fire TGs are not site locked meaning you can use any of those sites. I think they changed that so each agency can scan the other's traffic. This would not be possible if the TGs were site locked as they would not come out of the site you were affiliated with as a user.

I cannot speak to law traffic, however.

the public safety talkroups for Brazos County as far as Hensel Park, Bryan, Millican, North Brazos and College Station are not site specific. they affiliate to all those sites.

I do something similar on statewide systems trunked systems.

I chop my listening up specific to highways/routes.

For my trip from Waco to Hempstead, I will use all of the TXWARN sites I encounter. Then, I will take all of the wanted talk groups & stack them in the talk groups. I will sometimes use startup configuration keys as well. When I get to Houston, I will activate another startup key activation. In Harris County, I will list various talk groups in the same Favorite.

Since there only a few talk groups for Houston PD, I will sometimes combine them with Harris County. Generally speaking, I will make yet another favorite for the other talks for other municipalities.

For the very juicy talk groups, I will sometimes combine federal, INTEOP, & special operation talk groups.

I hope this helps you.

It does. For Brazos County I just created a FL and then a System with all five sites. I broke down Bryan, College Station, TAMU, BVWARN, and County into different departments. If I were there more often or lived in the area, I'd probably break it down even more. I did include DPS Bryan TGs as well.

That's probably good enough for occasional day trips.

On yesterday's trip I found the VHF DPS frequencies for Bryan active.
