For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi everyone. I just received my new radio today, and I've been reading up on everything I can find about it, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. I am having problems with the radio cycling through the start-up screen repeatedly, which says "PoC||GTFO". Yes I did try and load the experimental firmware to make it a DMR scanner. I have not programmed any frequencies in it, as it never get's off the start screen. I think that it might be the driver for the cable that is the problem, and if someone can point me to the right files to install the proper driver, I would appreciate it. I'm using Windows 7 X64, AMD processor.

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I'm really confused right now and ran out of things to try. The software that came with the radio on the little mini CD is very confusing to understand as it throws numbers at you that I have no idea what they mean. Any help you can provide would help, I need very simple instructions until I learn all the ropes of the radio. Thanks in advance.

The problem what you have is that you have flashed the wrong firmware. New 380 have Some new components. Download the original software flash that and you are up and running. You can find the software at the site of vx3xpr.

Its va3xpr and he is right run the stock 3.008 firmware for now until you program everything then experiment if you want. Also something sounds aborted about the firmware or the load of it, what site did you get your firmware from?

I did download everything from va3xpr site, I flashed the stock 3.008 firmware and it is still doing the same thing. With programming cable disconnected, it shows "Welcome" and beeps when you first turn it on, and then in 8 seconds, it will beep again, the green light on the top will flash for about half a second, and the welcome screen will show again. It will never get past this screen. When I attached the programming cable and turned it on, the welcome screen stays on continually (does not flash every 8 seconds) and I loaded the programming software, uploaded the scanner data into the program, and it looks like there was a few frequencies in there (nothing in my area yet. I changed a few frequencies to my area and wrote back to the scanner, but still doing the same thing. I hope I didn't brick the scanner, but if I did, is there any way to recover it? I'm lost and any help would be appreciated.

If you are back to stock firmware I would send it back it should have a one year warranty, one other thing have you tried a battery pull?

Yeap, got the stock firmware in it and already talked to the seller, I'm going to send it back and they said they can reset it and send it back. I'm just hoping that the new one I get doesn't do the same thing.

I sent the radio back and they are sending it back fixed, haven't received it yet, but they said that the current firmware is D013.020. I'm afraid of using the experimental firmware again as it will probably brick the radio again. Is there NEW experimental firmware that will work on this radio? Has anyone updated to experimental firmware on one of these new radios, and if so, where did you get the software?

Thanks in advance for the help!

KH6SZ,

Did you have any joy in the end with the above problem? I have exactly the same on my RT3, begging to think its faulty as I get the DMR RX in that the green LED comes on but i hear nothing...

I am running MD380tools straight from the Goodspeed website?

Thanks.

Well, not really. Right now I'm running the radio with the stock D013.020 firmware in it, but I really need the promiscuous mode of the experimental firmware. I did find some firmware updates for the S013.020, but they say that's for the MD-380 with GPS, and mine does not have GPS. I'm still looking for experimental firmware for the TYT MD-380, D013.020 firmware WITHOUT GPS. I hope I can find it soon.

I tried the firmware for the gps version, but the welcome screen comes on as normal, then goes off and gives a blank screen indefenately.

KH6SZ,

Thanks for the reply, it's certainly frustrating but that said, it "must work"...

So I have an idea? I have 2 versions of the experimental firmware, the first is a "SAAR" edition, this gives the "MD380" menu where I select "promiscuous mode" but again, only a green LED, no modulation. It's as if, if you imagine, that the RX isn't breaking the squelch but that said, I appreciate a digital channel
is different. I do get RX, I know this as I use a UV5R to check.

I also have a very recent version, December 2016. This give "MD380tools" with a few more features which I'm not sure if it's for developers. It loads to the handset but same problem, led but no modulation.

It's weird.

The other confusing thing is that I get a green light on every colour code...?

So, if you want to try the above editions, at your own risk, let me know how I can get the links over. Not sure if I'm allowed to post?
If they work, let me know and I could perhaps try the edition that you have, that didn't work on yours?

I did try a version that didn't work at all. Just got some weird logo/writing at startup but just went around in a loop. Mines an RT3?

Anythings worth a try?

The green light lights up whenever there is an RF signal on the frequency, regardless of whether that signal has any modulation or not. If you have green light but no audio, it could be because there is analog FM traffic on the frequency, random noise/interference, or a digital signal with a different color code, timeslot, or talkgroup ID than anything you have programmed.

I finally got a version that worked! I was trying the versions with the GPS, but when I tried the regular versions (the hourly builds) it worked. I turned on promiscuous mode and everything seems to be working now. Thanks for everyone who replied for pointing me in the right direction! I'm one happy camper now!

Bill, could you send me the link to the version you used which is working please and confirm anything else?

Have you actually received a digital transmission since loading it onto the handset and have you received anything using Promiscuous Mode?

Thank you so much buddy, I'm about to send mine back as faulty...?

All, an Update, the issues are now resolved. I was programming the same RX and TX frequency, the signal was from a repeater and obviously the handset was confused because of this. A quick separation of frequencies (make sure they are at least 12.5khz apart) and the DMR came bursting through, the clearest modulation I have ever heard.

A thank you to everyone who helped me.

FW. D013.020 & Saar Edition V2.

Let me know if anyone requires working files.

Here's the link that I used to get mine working.

https://pd0zry.nl/md380-fw/

I used the one with filename "firmware-2016-180001-1e2c2438.bin"

Yes, I am picking up everything now, I put it in promiscuous mode, removed all of my old talkgroups except for one (can't delete them all) and it is decoding just fine, nice and clear.

iscottybotty: I programmed all my frequencies to where the TX freq was 5 MHz higher than the RX freq. I think that's pretty much standard in the 450 MHz range.
