• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just bout a tyt uv8r and trying to program manually or by computer. I ended up doing a reset (hold fun. Power on) and now radio reads a default vhf high freq in upper screen and uhf freq in lower screen. When I go to imput a frequency I can put in 5 numbers and screen goes back to default. I cannot get any other mode than this default screen. I tried programming through computer but I can't get it to read the radio. I am thinking I have to push a few buttons to get this radio back to where I can program manually? I can't find any info on this radio. Thanks

Update. I did get the tyt8d software and it all works as it should like the cable lights when reading and writing but I don't have a channel screen allowing me to put in frequencies. I think the mode that the radio is in after the reset is the problem. I think it is not able to get to memory mode so it will accept the frequencies. There should be a way to fix this as a reset should not wipe out the radio and make it useless?

I am going to make a guess that your radio https://www.tyt888.com/?mod=product_show&id=61 is locked, as was my later MD-UV380. See FCC issues advisory against the import, sale and use of unauthorized UHF/VHF two way radios for an explanation.

The MD-UV380 can be unlocked by (1) turn off the radio and (2) simultaneously depressing the small buttons above and below the PTT button, turn the radio on.

I think your TYT TH-UV8R has a similar button arrangement. Perhaps the unlock process will work for you. Let us know. HTH.

I also believe it is locked. I tried the combo of buttons as well as the other 3 combos I saw on the forum for the different tyt radios and none worked. I tried a couple of 8 digit pass codes and that also did not work. I am going to try again to contact tyt for help. Thanks.

Shouldn't your vendor be able to help?

Or, if purchased through Amazon, return the purchase.

I can tell you with certainty as a satisfied customer of Buy Two Way Radios - Lowest 2 Way Radio Prices Anywhere! -- a TYT vendor -- they have the unlock codes or procedures for the models they sell. You could contact them to be sure.

HTH.

Unfortunately this is an oddball older radio (I use them as scanners) and I bought on ebay from China from a radio place. They are trying to help me but the answers I get in the u.s. are better than what they are giving me. I reached out a couple times to tyt but dont get a reply. Can't return overseas as it would cost to much. I will probably keep for awhile and see if an answer pops up. If not resell for parts. Thanks

I found out that by resetting it has locked the radio to the ham bands as I can put in ham frequencies without a problem. I am told software will not fix. I guess my only option at this point is to resell as a ham radio?
