• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

Question about the U of T Special Constables. In the database there is a talkgroup listed on a mobile communications system (http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=4108) for UofT Security. I'm curious as if that's all of U of T (all 3 campuses) or just one. (St George, Mississauga, Scarborough). Each campus's police operate somewhat indpenendantly of each other. I saw constables at the Scarborough campus carrying the ht1250 ls radios. Does anyone know how they are set up (all three campuses)

As well, are there any patches in place with Toronto Police so they can communicate if they need officers, or is it all done via telephone/cell phone, and word of mouth (when onscene)?

First off, U of T doesn't have Police, they have Special Constables.

You can find them on 453.700 DPL412.

They don't use trunking capable radios, and don't have the ability to patch with TPS.

The University of Toronto Campus Community Police communicate on 451.700. The St. George dispatch centre is also responsible for dispatching to Scarborough. Mississauga Campus Police uses a different frequency. It's likely their dispatch is different because St. George and Scarborough are Special Constables through Toronto Police, while at the Mississauga Campus they are Special Constables through Peel Regional Police, but that's just a guess.

As for the frequency listed, it's definately not the main frequency used on campus. It's may be security for 89 Chestnut (a UofT residence) or other security on campus which is contracted out to Reilley's Security Services.

Currently, the St. George campus does not have any way of contacting Toronto Police by radio. Everything is done through telephone.
