What frequency is this: 938.5500? Everytime I scan thru the channels, it always stops on this frequency and all that i hear is a: put, put, put, pu pu pu put, put, put, put, pu pu pu put

OMG is so annoying, I may just delete it. For some reason, when Radio Shack programmed my scanner, they programmed this frequency on channel 6. If it helps any, I'm in the Dundalk-Sparrows Point area.

That is the main reason to learn to program your scanners for yourself, since most Radio Shack employees are not into scanners and just download information from the FCC database. You can program them anyway that you like and have the ability to reprogram for other areas or if your listening tastes change. Spend some time reading the manual that came with your scanner and getting help from members on Radio Reference's Forum. Your should purchase the software for your radio and know how to program by hand when out. It will take a some time to learn your scanner, but you will be glad you did in the long run.

Dogman-
I can't imagine why they programmed that freq--a quick check of the database doesn't show anything in our area for it... I live just across the Patapsco in Pasadena, and hear the same noise on that freq. I'd just delete it, or lock it out.

Not sure what type of scanner you have, but I highly recommend that you purchase some software like WIN96, (for PRO-96), since you mentioned it was a RadioShack scanner. It's the only way to go. If you get any of the software, just let me know, I'm sure I have a file that will work for you.

Good luck.
