UHF Frequencies

It has been awhile since I programmed a UHF frequencies that has a repeater on it. There is a frequency in my are (465.150), which is the first listing and the book it is in says that is the primary/dispatch frequency. The other is 460.15.

My question is, which one do I put in? the lower or higher of the two? I want to hear both dispatch and dispatch-car / car-car

The lower one(460.150) of a UHF pair is the repeater output, and the one you want for both base/mobile. YOu are probably looking at http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?cs=WNEC690 which is 17 miles from you. The FX1=input/control, and FB2=repeater out.

This is for captclint, but anyone may answer it.

So, if I have 460.150 & 465.150 as the frequencies, I should use the lower one to hear everything right?

On the UHF band, the spectrum is broken down like this:

450-454.9875 Repeater outputs
455-459.9875 Repeater inputs

460-464.9875 Repeater outputs
465-469.9875 Repeater inputs

470-472.9875 Repeater outputs
473-475.9875 Repeater inputs

476-478.9875 Repeater outputs
479-481.9875 Repeater inputs

482-484.9875 Repeater outputs
485-487.9875 Repeater inputs

488-490.9875 Repeater outputs
491-493.9875 Repeater inputs

494-496.9875 Repeater outputs
497-499.9875 Repeater inputs

500-502.9875 Repeater outputs
503-505.9875 Repeater inputs

506-508.9875 Repeater outputs
509-511.9875 Repeater inputs

However, there are many users running simplex on the 'input' channels. A lot of businesses use an input/output pair as two simplex channels, and the FCC will (apparently) license a user for simplex on an input channel without them using the associated output channel. It's all up to the frequency coordinator for the area what's allowed.

Generally speaking yes. If a repeater is being used with that freq. pair 460.1500 is the output and 465.1500 is the input. All radios will transmit on the input freq. to access it and receive on the output freq.

You will want to enter the output freq. only to hear all of the traffic.

On the 450-465 band the repeater split is 5MHz. B98.5% of the time the input is the higher frequency - in your case, 465.1500 with the repeater output being the lower half - 460.1500. In some instances, the two are bass-ackwards. For several years here in Atlanta, WSB Traffic Center was xmitting on 450.2500 with the repeater output on 455.2500. That and they had split tones as well!

Actually in the 450/455 Media Spectrum there is no proper recognized band-split, some have been lucky to obtain a +/- 5 Mhz pairs, others have not.

Also the 457/467 [Burger Pairs and Cruise Ships] will be +/- 10.2250 Mhz or +/- 10.0000 Mhz
