• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You're out of luck. Pers Ver 50 means it was programmed with, and requires RPM, not programmer. There is a process of reflashing the radio so it can be used with programmer, but you need a file from RPM to achieve that.

OT, but check out this line out of the sellers description:
I am selling these for my police department as we are trying to collect enough funds to purchase dated equipment that our city can't afford.
Jaded much?

I have a few repeaters I can use it on. But yeah, this buyer looks a little sketchy.

If anyone has one they want to sell, let me know!

Thanks!

This may be one of the ones that has no feature data in it. A bunch got lost in shipping and an unclaimed freight reseller got them and started selling them. M/A-Com will have nothing to do with them and will not assign even a basic feature string to them. Buyer beware.

Do not buy them without proof that they have valid feature data and show no errors.

I would offer them 100 bucks and tell them thats the best they will get, without features and in that bandplan they are good for the case and other parts at most.

Well I have one that I use. But the battery life sucks on these radios so I stick to my MRK radio. You want P25 operation then I would go with the XTS 2500 or 5000. Just a thought

A properly conditioned 700p/jaguar type batt (THIS IS THE P7100))/7150/P7170 TYPE)should go around 10 hrs. If it does not you have an old batt or a bad radio. We have hundreds in our fleet and a good batt will last all day with normal use. These radios are extremely durable as well,

I have a VHF P7100IP as well as VHF Motorola radios of every top end type made in the last 20 years. I am quite able to compare their operation and performance and frankly, the only reason I have to use the P7100 at all is because the RSSI and signal strength displays in the FCC menu are incredibly handy tools to have on hand when mapping out the coverage of a repeater system or attempting to locate a stuck transmitter.

Frankly, the most I can say for the P7100 in other respects is that it is a workable radio. It excels at NOTHING. It's not very well made, it's not particularly rugged, and I'd never, ever trust the weather sealing on it. It's pretty cheaply made, using a construction method that is at least 10 years outdated.
Its audio quality is really poor for such an expensive radio, its transmitter is inefficient, losing almost half the actual transmit output power in the TX/RX filter module, and its receiver is sensititive but not very resistant to interference.

I'd take a good condition regular Motorola Saber before one of these, if the Saber served the purpose at hand. Any newer Motorola radio is in another class of quality entirely.

I like the M-RKs too. But trying to find a decent V or U Split (Not 403-433) on E-Bay is like trying to find hens teeth. Why are these things so scarce? You would figure that they made a bung load of these.
