In the following:

Unit ID Name
Unit ID Name 1 (1-16)
Unit ID Name 2 (17-30)
Unit ID Name 3 (31-46)
Unit ID Name 4 (47-60)

What do the numbers in the parentheses mean/refer to?

If the alpha tag for a uid has more than 16 characters you can get more space for the extra characters to be displayed... If used they need to be in order..

Thanks!
I also wondered why I get all those options in some window tags but only one (Unit ID Name) for other window tags but I guess it's space considerations.

I also have a couple other questions:

1. What function do UIDs serve other than identifying a specific radio since the alpha tag information is already displayed?
2. Does Sentinel allow actual "greek characters" to be used in alpha tags?

Alpha tags are assigned by you. (only exception is NXDN which can include/transmit an alias)
If you want to have a name instead of just a uid display on your radio.

Only a few special characters can be displayed, So probably not "greek characters"...

I guess my follow-up question is "why bother writing your own Unit ID alpha tags when Sentinel's Database already provides the "Department Name", "Channel Name" and "Service Type" when you use the Sentinel software?

Because your personal way of naming things may be different than what's in the database.

The above, and also providing greater resolution within a conversation stream (i.e. who is presently talking; dispatcher, base operator, officer in the field etc.) are the only two reasons I can think of.

Let's say you know a certain uid is a Sargent or the Crimes Van or a motorcycle or the officer's name or Mayor's Security or ....

As you learn more about a particular unit by listening, you can make a record of it.

Also let's you know who left the mike keyed up, or who's there even if they don't speak.. I thought my attached screen shot would make it apparent. An alpha tag is much more informative than a generally meaningless number.. But the average user may not care or have a clue it's even an option.. Not to mention the Audio/LED alerts that can be set per radio..
IDK  It's up to the users preference.. Or patience.. Or OCD'ness..:whistle:

It's an available feature some of us have decided to use. Their are many other features I choose not to use and find no use for, but know it's available if needed.

One thing to add abut NXDN UID's...the "alias ID's" will show up, but are not auto-saved. You have to press the Enter button which prompts you to save Unit ID. Once you have a bunch, it's best to Read from Scanner so they are saved.

A Unit ID Alpha Tag is a way of describing a particular radio. For example, in my community "180010" is "Okolona Fire Chief Mobile Radio" and "180011" is "Okolona Fire Chief Portable radio".

While it can be time consuming to learn what radio Unit IDs are associated with what radios, they are very helpful to let you know who is talking. Especially good if you do not hear the first part of a transmission.

Unit ID alpha tags should not be confused with Talkgroup ID alpha tags. A talkgroup alpha tag is an alias or name given to a talkgroup ID number. So for example a talkgroup id of 205 means "Fire 5".
