Hey folks,

Looking for some clarification or information with respect to unit IDs and the OPP. For example, I can be listening to the scanner and hear dispatch talking to a 3 Oscar **** unit on 2OPS32. So I save the unit ID as "Oscar unit" (to help me identify that it's a prince edward county unit. However, the very next day, that unit ID that I saved as an Oscar unit will be talking to OPP dispatch on the 2OPS35 channel and be a Quebec unit from Centre Hastings area.

Are unit IDs specific to each ops channel?

I don't have the problem with saving the unit IDs on the MOH frequencies, as the unit IDs for ambulances I've saved have remained the same for the past year or so now.

That is because they are "soft id's" So his soft id /call sign follows the officer. He could be 3 Oscar 301 while in car 3-148 then half way thru the shift change cars but keep the same call sign

The only real thing worth tagging would be the cars HARD ID. So the number on the side of the door would always stay with that radio ID number (Unless they retire that car)

The thing with EMS is their ID's wont change because EMS Unit 2112 will always call on the air as that unit. They dont use soft id's

So EMS should always stay the same, OPP/MTO/MNR will always be different for call signs

I hear it all the time here. Day time officers are ODD number calls sings. 3 Oscar 301 403 105 type deal would indicate they are day shift. EVEN numbers would be night shift officer 302 404 106 ...or it could be the other way around. ODD is night and EVEN is day.. cant remember :D
