Im a long time user of Uni – it is the best by far....

Now when I was using win xp I had zero issues..., then I changed all my lap tops / pc's to Win 7 & 8 64 bit.

Recent;y I have got back into cc decoding....Boy did I miss it.

Now on to maters at hand , when I grabbed the latest UNI ….it would not work at all...I blamed my os .

Like most of us on rr.com we like to experiential , and I was looking at one Uni Version that said RETRO , I downloaded it.

I cannot recall if that version had the file in it called KNACK...or I grabbed one version that had KNACK....

Once I had that version..it all came alive.....and there was my signal at a healthy 99 – 100 % , heck first few hrs I found TG that I dont have...as I said...Uni is a win win.

If are having issues in getting a signal , you have checked the usual things...still no Signal , do what I did....used an older version , that had KNACK in it...and it loved win 7 and 8 ! ( Both 64 bit )

Anyone from Ontario.....I cant recall how to follow the Voice Channels....I am sure I am missing one....I use to know this stuff a while back...Im an old man I forget lol

The system is OPP zone 3 – the TG are right on the money....just the VHF system I cant seem to recall HOW to track it in the Voice area of UNI....I know he band plan...any help would be great

Hi Roger;

Thank you for your kind words. However, I think I need to point you in a different direction.

Retro has the following deficiencies.

1. optimistic signal strength - the new version uses a more accurate means of calculating health.
2. poor C4FM support; expect about 40% true decode rate on a good day.
3 .uses a DB download mechanism no longer supported by RR.
4. Better filtering for all protocols - P25,
5. P25 improvements - VHF and TDMA.
6. Better Motorola support.
7. Better MPT1327 support.
8. Better EDACS support.
9. Supports multiple signal receivers.
10. Supports multiple voice receivers.
11. Delegation (\automatic is better and manual is new).
12. Consolidation (automatic and manual).
13. More supported receivers.

Retro has one advantage - it can run on Windows 98 and Windows NT. The oldest supported OS for Unitrunker is Windows 2000. All of my Windows 9X boxes have long since died so I seldom hear complaints about this.

My stuff

My stuff isnt old....I am tho lol

Im using the following :

dual core laptop 1 yr old

Windows 7 - 64 bit

What Im saying is that if I use one of my older win xp boxes....no go...it will not work , and that's ok.

Now on my new Lap top....works GREAT! - The version I used has KNACK in it.....versions without KNACK
will NOT work....those with KNACK work , and work well !

All my TG are correct.....and new ones are simply that new....my Uniden 996 picks up the new tg, but in the event the 996 is doing something else , on a diff TG and im listening...I jave seen new tg pop up....I enter those tg's in my 996....and yes they are new , some are apco as indicated by Uni while others are analog.

I guess my question is , how can I track voice channels on a VHF radio system , not 800 or 900

If you look at oNTARIO , cANADA you will see OPP ( like a state Police ) in zones 1 - 4...I olive in zone 3....very few of us are this far North.

Oh , I was at a yard sale....and the guy there gave me a Radio Shack 2010 , early 90's table top....so I put in the tap...one thing tho

When putting in taps, I use the headphone jack...its there its mounted we will never use it again....so I hook up the tap to that ....has not failed me...mini jack is a mini jack. make sure ya clip all lil wires that make it a headphone jack in the 1st place.

So there , new lap top...win 7 ( 64 bit ) zero issues....ONLY Id like to track the voice channels I know we have another one...id like to find it.

Plus alot of tgs were moved around...

The system is a VF , band plan is

141.01500
15.000
380

thats it.....any help?

& thank you again , for the awesome program.....when I came to my town I used a lap top , Uni , and back then I had the system in UNI right , cuz it showed every vhf voice channel....I have no idea what I did.

lol

Thx

Why do you suppose that's the case?

Now on my new Lap top....works GREAT!
Again, why do suppose it worked out this way. There are lots of people running the software that don't have a second PC or laptop to try out.

- The version I used has KNACK in it.....versions without KNACK
will NOT work....those with KNACK work , and work well !
I'm glad it works for you but as I explained above, you - and anyone who follows your advice - will miss out on a lot of features by running old software. Believe it or not, the newer software actually decodes better.

Anyone wanting to get Unitrunker working from a discriminator tap should follow these instructions:

http://www.unitrunker.com/level.html

They should also include some series resistance in their tap. I've adopted the habit of using a 50k Ohm variable resistor. The actual resistance value needed varies and this covers all bases - including very low or no resistance. I suspect your problem in the XP boxes was isolation. A resistor will take care of that.

I'll answer your VHF band plan question in a moment.
