• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Are these pagers on the way out or something?

I've noticed everyone is pushing the G1 or the other newer voice ones.

I'd like to grab an E3 shortly but not if it's basically going to be wasted money.

Any ideas?

The E3 is an alpha-numeric pager and the G1 is a voice pager. They are not interchangeable.

We are an authorized Unication dealer, if you are interested in more information and pricing.

As far as being on the way out, the E3 is not on the way out.

The G1 is a 2 tone or 5/6 tone voice pager, the E3 is a POCSAG alphanumeric text pager.

While some photos show messaging on the G1, it's not mentioned in the specs.

The messaging you see on the photos of the G1 was when they made the GSM model. It worked on a SIM card with a monthly data plan and received text messages, IamResponding and Active911 calls, or anything that was also emailed to the SIM card.

Yeah…I think there's still an E3 model with GSM. Unication should really correct their site and brochures. Kind of misleading for potential buyers.

Thanks for the replies. I should have been more clear. I am aware of the difference between the different ones they offer.

I was just curious since the two dealers near me never really have them for sale on their site, only the G1 and newer styles are available for purchase and only had information about the E3. They could get one for me, but I was just alittle put off with it not being promoted as much.

It is good to know it isn't on the way out though!

I have the E3 for use in Horry County, SC. Works very well and easy to program. The only improvement I'd like is the ability to use a wild card in place of a complete code via the PPS. That would allow station alerting rather than only individual unit alerting.

Alpha paging is not near as popular as voice paging. That is most likely the reason they don't advertise them.
