I wrote Rays Pagers regarding either a G4 or G5 pager to be used with the Montgomery County PA System.
He asked me the following questions, Has the County switched to the new P25 System as of yet?
Also, it is not very specific on the radioreference pages what system they are actually using.

Does anyone have any insight into this who monitors Montgomery County PA?
Thanks!

Montco has not switched to the new system yet, however our radios have been programmed with the new zones (along with the old ones) to facilitate the changeover. They have encountered (yet another) delay in implementing the new system, this time it's the microwave links:

My understanding is that the G4/G5''s are not compatible with Montco's current (Motorola Type II SmartZone) system - not sure about the new system.

It sure would be handy to have a monitor capable of receiving the VHF pages (maybe alphanumeric or voice - I'm not sure of the capabilities of the G5), and then switching to monitoring the trunked system for responses. That being said, I don't see any county companies jumping up to spend that much on pagers for their responders.

The Unication should work on the new system, once it is online fully. At almost double the price point, from a Minitor VI to a Unication G5, I don't know that all departments would buy any. However, border departments might find them useful if they run mutual aid into Chester Co, Berks Co, or Bucks Co. You could program both systems for your home county and neighboring county into the G5.

Our new radios have zones for Bucks and Chester Counties (along with the NIFOG channels), but not for Berks.

I'd like to play with a G5, but as you point out, the price is just too high, especially after we all just went through replacing our old radio gear to prepare for the new system. We'll be paying off that loan for years.
