• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

My dealer has told me Unication will not repair pagers more than 5 years old. I’m kinda miffed at the really short lifespan. I have purchased well over 100 units for my agencies, thinking these were the best thing out there.

This feels like a kick to the nuts and has me brainstorming other options.

I know they don’t make things like they used to, but c’mon man- I still have functioning plectrons and original minitors…. Sigh. I digress.

In the meantime, are there any third party Unication repair centers?

I was told the same, by multiple dealers. Info was a little conflicting. Got told it's 5yrs from purchase and no more repairs. Separately told they'll only "out of warranty repair" for 3 years after warranty expiry. So pitch was get the extended warranty so it's in-warranty for 5yrs, then i'll have 3 more years from expiry for anything out of warranty. So technically, servicable for 8 years. I don't know which interpretation is right.

Anyway, a manufacturer creating e-waste after 5 years seems awfully....wasteful? Since Unication USA got a new General Manager, they're clearly cracking down on minimum sales prices, promos, less leniency what's an in-warranty repair. And pushing extra (read: high margin) products like desktop charger and extended warranty. The units are not difficult to repair, both software and hardware. They just don't make it available to customers.

If the hardware ends up on Aliexpress or Taobao, I could see these pagers lasting 15+ years. Any scanner/radio/electronics repair shop will be able to repair...if parts were available.

They 5yr limit on repairs is not a USA decision, this is a Taiwan decision.
I'm a dealer and spoke with my contacts at the USA division. They recommend anyone who wants to complain to email info@unication.com and they will forward all complaints to Taiwan.

The more people who email and complain, the more complaints Taiwan will see. Hopefully this will cause them to rethink their 5yr plan.

If you do not like this decision, email info@unication.com and let them know!

I just purchased one for self before having my dept buy these. The out of warranty thing wish I'd have known prior. Probably would have stuck with a motorola. Sounds like they feel just buy another once ones out of warranty.

You figure close to 8 or 900 bucks they would after everything said and done on them is ordered.
