• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Trying to deploy a U3 I bought new several years ago, only to finally discover that THE SCAN FUNCTION DOESN'T WORK.

So the U3 shows in the PPS the "list" just like a G4 or G5, but upon attempting to monitor this "list", ONLY the FIRST entry will receive, nothing else added will RX, so basically, there is no scan.

Not to be Captain Obvious, but have you checked the Zone and Knob positions that make up the "List"?

One other thought: Is the Receiving mode set to Normal Scan (or Priority Scan, if you have priority channel enabled)?

Hope you get it working.

Unless they have put out a firmware update the P25 TRANSMITTING U3 is not capable of priority scan.

The list looks the same as G series PPS, with a box to add or remove talkgroups, but no priority box below it.

The only talkgroup that will RX in the list will always be the top or first entry, anything added after simplyu wil not receive.

Just posting this as a warning to anyone who may want to purchase one of these for NAS use, as they can be programmed form NAS without a key or risk of TX. the downsides are you are basically locked into one talkgroiup at a time, and changing zones is about twice as cumbersome and time consuming as a G series. You are better oiff just buying a used Motorola.

I do love my G3 and G5--they are great receivers with all the requisite bells and whistles. But... if you're like most radio enthusiasts, sometimes you just want to experiment with a commercial piece of gear. In that case, my choice would be BK radios' KNG and KNG2 series. The software allows for true NAS with just a check of a box, which I find far easier than the equivalent Moto handhelds. I've been able to pick up several BK handhelds on eBay for very good prices--especially when compared to Moto prices--and the software wasn't too pricey, either.

Just my two cents...YMMV.

You need a newer version of PPS. The version I saw was almost identical the G5 PPS with the priority box above the non-priority groups.
