Would anybody know anything about the mod where the backlight comes on when the squelch breaks?

Don't recall that mod. The only one I did was "unlock" the cellular band!

Oh I remember my BC 200, probably one of the most modified radios ever and yes unlocking the 800 megahertz analog cell phones was cool. It didn't trunk but you could still hear both sides of the conversation as cell phones were not that common.

Mods were done by pushing different sequences of buttons while turning the unit on and off. Also mods were done by disassembly, I remember extending my battery life and getting a faster scan speed but to be honest I do not remember having the display light go on with the squelch being a broken which is not to say it can't be done, probably by a sequence of pressing numbers with the on and off switch.

I do remember there was a Yahoo group just on mods for that unit but I don't know what's going on with that anymore. If I might suggest try all kinds of Google searches and I bet you you're going to find something. Again it was a great radio in its day.
