Hey all, just curious what programming software and cable is needed to program one of these scanners for a P25 system?

Also, is it possible to hand program it for the digital stuff as well?

Trying to get alameda county stuff.

Thanks

The P25 card will allow you to copy the so-called 'mixed mode' digital stuff, but it's not capable of handling the newer P25 systems out there. And of course, it can't handle any Phase 2 systems.

I don't believe there's any special USB cable for this radio - any off the shelf one would work, I think - but beware that you must be aware of what operating system you're using on your PC. Win8 and 10 take a bit more work to find a compatible cable and drivers. Our Connecting Scanners via USB article in our wiki has extensive information and links on this very topic.

As for software - hands down, ProScan; and the author is a RR member. To be fair, ARC250 will also do it (and Gommert is also here), but again, watch to see if it's compatible with the OS you're using on your PC (Both packages are Win 8.x compatible, but I'm not sure about Win 10.x). Of course, in both cases, you will need a RR subscription to pull data from our databases, and both packages support this.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I just saw that about the card, bummer! I'm using a tough book with win vista so I have true serial port and older stuff works pretty good on it.

The BCD250D does have a unique style serial connector. You'll need to hunt down the cable for that particular model and serial to USB adapter.

That scanner is still a very decent choice for apps like the non-digital military stuff - I'd say go for it. Check Scanner Master first to see if they have the required cable
