• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

bkzsupreme,

The Suffolk County system for Police/Fire/EMS is a Motorola Type II SmartZone trunking system and the system information is found here. The Suffolk County trunking system is specified here and has talkgroups for Police, Sheriff, Fire, EMS and others. One or more sites for this trunking system have gone through the 800 MHz rebanding process. Reference this Rebanding Wiki for information on which scanners will and will not work for this system.

For New York City, FDNY is also using a Motorola Type II SmartZone trunking system and the system information is found here. The New York City DoITT (800 MHz) system is specified here and has talkgroups for Sheriff, FDNY, EMS and others.

That is a lot of information so I'm sure you will have questions. Especially look over the Rebanding Wiki since it has specific information on the type of scanner you will need for your scanning interests.

Finally, Welcome to Radio Reference!

Cheers! Dave
