I recently purchased a Uniden BCD-325P2 and a couple of I think "mini-usb" connecter cables. The mini -usb cables (I may have the connector type wrong). These cables do not power the scanner. So I brought another usb programming cable which powers the scanner fine, however within a month or so the usb connector on the cable that connects to the radio wore out. Making the programming cable useless.

Is there any other cable that will power this radio besides the programming radio?

I wish Uniden made a separate power port and programming port like they did on the bcd-396t series..

Other then that it's a great radio.

Any standard Mini USB cable should work. It sounds like the ones you got were defective.

As for the lack of the power port, thank California's CEC.
(search CEC Uniden if you want more info - in short, they banned what you want)

Thank you that makes sense and I read the Uniden thread on CEC. I wonder if Uniden were to remove the charging capability they could use a regular power connector? This will probably never happen.

Then they could use the money from the charging circuitry to put Wi-fi and Bluetooth into it, not so sure the charge function should even be utilized once, at least the other 2 would allow many users the options of actually using them on a daily basis. But then again that bell and whistle of Charging is the most useless feature to me so I'm biased.

You may be biased - but I only use it - and use it for all of mine. In 30 years the only battery issue I ever had was an alkaline somehow shorted within a Sony portable and melted the plastic.

I know - I've heard all the stories - but never lost one yet, I'll worry about it if it does melt.

If they didn't offer it there would be more and more complaints as to why not.

I sure as $^#$$^ don't want wi-fi close to my scanner, could care less about BT also.

Well I usually don't listen to much 2.4ghz so I can remain open to novel ideas and concepts.

I've never seen a dumb charger a good solution to charge any batteries other than get by for an extra half day, then return the batteries to a proper charger.

I'm not so sure the USB port or cable should exactly be "worn out" but once again I'm biased and don't unplug my cable 20 times a day especially not both ends; nor do I abuse the cable or connectors, I typically try to use the rubber at the connector to disengage/dislodge connection w/o wiggling it (I have had to explain this to numerous people in just the past 5 years).

Blue tooth connectivity would be awesome especially in an external speaker. The internal speaker is good and even at close to max volume your not going to probably blow the speaker since scanner audio isn't as bassy and loud as music.

I never use my charger in my scanner for the batteries. I would rather see the charging feature omitted and have a data port for GPS and a another port for power.

You don't need to listen to 2.4, but you stick a 2.5 ghz xmitter/receiver in the scanner and at some point you will get issues. If not you someone, will have issues with de-sense.

Paul has stated several times regarding BT could cause issues.

Yeah I know cell phones do , but they are not a wide receiver either.

It actually did happen when they got caught with the BC346XT. They removed the charging circuit and dubbed it the BC346XTC so it would pass the CEC regulations. They could not redesign it to add USB - at least not efficiently.

But, a lot of people want that charging circuit.
