I have a BCD160, I mostly deal in VHF/UHF primary focus with CB and air traffic as secondary, as well as some low band, what antenna will serve me best without breaking the bank? Thanks!

Also please no car antennas, or telescopic antennas as I had bad experiences with telescopic and I don’t own a vehicle and don’t wanna just go throwing an antenna on anyone’s vehicle.

To cover such a wide range of bands, a telescopic would be best. You are not going to find much of an upgrade from the standard aerial that will be an improvement on all these bands.

A full size discone works fine up to 500MHz and I believe that there are some that have a vertical element that receives 27MHz.
That will probably be a $50-$100 antenna and if your bank account doesn't hold that kind of money then you can try a 27MHz dipole you make from electrical wire. It will probably work fine also for the air band if you manage to have it outdoors.

104 inches to each side are fine for 27MHz. Use it vertically and coil up the coax 4-5 turns at the antenna and put some ferrite cores on it to isolate the antenna from the coax shield. That will probably be a total of $20 and you can use RG6 CATV coax.

You can google a better example that includes coiling the coax and using ferrites.

The Comet HT-224 will get you VHF Air through UHF. I think the 160DN has a BNC jack, so you will need an SMA to BNC adapter.

CB/Low Band reception on a handheld is going to be tough without a longer, telescopic antenna.

Extended receive range: 118-160 MHz, 250-290 MHz, 360-390 MHz, 420-470 MHz, 820-960 MHz.
