Hi,

Does anyone in the Edmonton area run a Uniden BCD 325P2 scanner? I am looking to purchase one and from what I have researched it does not work well with Edmonton Simulcast, but it will work with surrounding areas.
For example, it should work if I tune into St.Albert , Sherwood Park, Fort Sask sites. Am I correct ?

Also. I might as well add, does anyone know anybody local who is looking to sell their Uniden BCD 325P2 scanner? Cheapest I have found online is in the $500 dollar range. This being a hobb,y I would love to not have for spend that kind of cash .

Thanks

If youre looking to keep things cheap, check out software defined radio dongles and a program like Unitrunker or SDRTrunk. You can be up and running decoding Edmonton Simulcast stuff for under 100$. Plus it'll do all the DMR/NXDN stuff too and a host of other neat things!

I do already have multiple SDR dongles... I have played around the DSD+ monitoring the AFFRCS system . It works fine but I really prefer something more handheld and mobile.
Ah, I figured that might have been the case. I've got an SDS100 which does fine for me with the Edmonton site but is honestly pretty deaf as far as a receiver goes. Kinda sad for 1000$ lol.

If you can live without a lot of the EFRS chatter, a 325P2 or even an older 396XT would work if you're not interested in DMR/NXDN. The 436HP is also nice with the database, makes going to new places a lot more interesting when I can just punch in a postal code and be scanning.

In a mobile setup, I would recommend the mag mount (gasp) or fixed antenna for better reception when mobile in vehicle via BNC connector. That unit is good size. Whereas, my go to is 436 with a bigger and stupid antenna connector which uses adaptor. But, mobile in car can't beat that combo, IMHO.
