I recently purchased the Uniden BCD325P2 for my husband. We are somewhat technical but are having a very difficult time trying to program this scanner. Is there a program that we can use to help with programming? I've read many reviews on different sites and not one has been helpful.

Welcome to Radio Reference! I use Butel ARC-XT Basic to program my BCD325P2 and BCD996P2. You can also use ProScan. Both have a free trial period to decide which one you like best. What is your city, county, and state, and which agencies would you like to monitor?

Some of what you're looking to listen too takes place on the Rhode Island Statewide Communications Network (RISCON).

RISCON is all simulcast, Depending on your location your BCD325P2 might struggle to monitor that system as that scanner does not handle simulcast that well. There are some things you can do to try and make it work but YMMV.

I programmed a 996p2 this weekend with Freescan...easy if you import from Radio Reference. The price for a yearly membership is WELL worth it!

I feel your pain in the BCD325p2. In Tacoma WA .. Seems like a great scanner but extremely complicated to a newbie like myself. I looked into some software but it seems like it's all "Windows" based and I only have a Chromebook which doesn't have a Windows OS. I've went ahead and moved fwd manually programming and by trial and error have somewhat got to make some noise. Still a little confused by my local PHASE II "site ID" being a hex code. I did enter it and I think I'm part way there, but anyone with some clarification. Keywords: SS911 Tacoma Phase II P2 Pierce County

Welcome to the hobby! I have a 325P2 here in the Chicago area and I love it! The software, FREESCAN is available for download for free here:FreeSCAN - Sixspot Software. The software is no longer supported but it works well for the 325P2. I also use PROSCAN and I love it. There is a one time cost for it but its update constantly and the author is also a member here. regardless of the software. if you sign up as a subscriber here, you can log into the the database through the software and download what you need in a few key strokes. Otherwise, you have the ability to copy and paste into the software and create the systems you want to listen to. Good luck and ask as many questions as you like. We are all here to help!

FreeSCAN is alright if you do not need to program DMR, like a few have said it is no longer supported, so there are no updates.

I would look into ProScan and ARC-XT.

Myself I prefer ProScan, @ProScan customer service is top notch!

I'll take that into consideration, but I'm so close to having it figured out manually.

Thank you everyone for your help. I had no luck with FreeScan so I downloaded ProScan I have the scanner connected but cannot figure out how to manually add the frequencies. Can I or do I have to import them? If I have to import them I believe that I need a subscription to Radioreference or Proscan.

Same issue here, but I don't have Windows OS and I have yet to find out if I can download just with my Chromebook Chrome OS. However, I have fumbled my way into programming manually with some good results.

Are these conventional frequencies or trunking frequencies part of a trunking system?

Here's the basic steps to add conventional frequencies.
1. Open a new database file
2. Add a new conventional system
3. Add a new group
4. Either add frequencies or use the Get Clipboard function to grab them from the Win Clipboard

I really appreciate all of the responses. I worked on this for hours last night and by the end of the night my husband was just at the point where he said return it :( I feel so bad because I know he was really looking forward to having a scanner again, but it is nothing like the one he had before (analog).

Yes I'd highly recommend a premium membership to Radioreference. This allows you to import info directly from the RR database into Proscan so you don't need to manually create groups, systems, etc. See Pages 18 & 19 of Proscan manual here for more detail

Na, no need to return it! Stick to it, there's a bit of a learning curve involved but there are lots of folks here on the forums who will walk you through

Its not hard... take a breath... There are Youtube videos on how to program the 325P2 and its desktop cousin, thew 996P2. With Proscan, its easy. Heck, one of us can create a DB for you in Proscan and send it to you. At least that will get you up and running. You'll se that this isn't rocket science but it is also a bit more than just punching in frequencies. Tell me what you want to hear and I can try and create a few systems for you.

Thank you for your reassurance :) We basically just want to have the scanner at home running and listen to any activity in our local cities. Police, Fire, Public works, weather. We do not need GPS, recording, logging. Nothing fancy and that's where I think I'm getting thrown off. I downloaded proscan last night connected the scanner and it was working (as far as me seeing that it was connected). I entered step by step for digital frequencies (I believe I entered about 15 just to try). Once I was done entering I hit scan and got nothing.

Imar,
I have enclosed the ProScan file for you from my 996P2.
Wow this is amazing and all of the areas that we are looking for. So I should just be able to upload this via PROSCAN. Do I have to do anything after that?
