I've had scanners for many years, and never experienced this type of problem. I purchased the BCD996P2 scanner about a year ago, and about every several weeks, the scanner stops receiving anything, even the weather frequencies. If I turn it off then back on again, it starts receiving again as it has. I've not changed any setting, added any frequencies or anything. Was wondering if anyone has experienced this before or has a solution to resolve the issue, other than turning it off then back on again.

If the scanner appears to be scanning properly, It may be an antenna problem. Take a look at the center pin of the plug on the antenna to see if it has broken off or is pushed in. Try swapping antennas with another scanner. Also check the wiring from the antenna connector to the circuit board inside the scanner. Try cleaning the antenna connector. Is squelch set at 2?

Cleaned the antenna connector, pin looked OK. Squelch is actually set at 3. I'll listen to it for a time and see if that corrects it. Thanks for the response.

I have had the same issue with the same Radio and tried to explain to Uniden but they were not much help and I even think I have a thread on here somewhere and explained the same thing. Knock on wood it actually hasn't happened for a few months and all I had to do to get it to start working again was to shut it off and turn it back on. Mine runs non stop and I record transmissions but each morning I check to see that I am receiving transmissions by checking the weather channels. Sorry i'm not of much help but just wanted to share that you are not alone.

Seems like it is not just my radio. Thanks for letting me know.

Do NOT open up this scanner and only send it to Uniden America Corporation in Texas if it needs repair.

So, here is an update: I reloaded all the frequencies and as I was listening, anytime the scanner would stop on a frequency that was only transmitting a "squelch" type tone (sorry don't know how else to describe it), instead of pressing the L/O button, I would press hold and use switch from the temporary lockout to the full lockout. The scanner has been operating without any issues since I locked out and not just temporary locked out any annoying frequency. I'm at 4 months without any issue instead of about a month before the scanner appeared to stop receiving. To anyone experiencing this behavior, try this, it is easy and doesn't require you to do anything that might void your warranty.
