That's an Uniden OEM part and will be available only from them. Give them a call and see if they'll sell it to you, otherwise you'll have to send it in to them for repair.

I've owned numerous BCT15X's over several years and never had a display fail. Up until now I never heard of one failing either. How many failures have you encountered?

No go from Uniden only available at their repair shop. I am not spending $90.00 for a $10-$15 display LOL. I did ask them again about their position on #righttorepair the said they are aware if it and no comment if they support it or not. So, Not having a display available or front panel available and them saying can only be done at their repair facility they don't support right to repair.

So the next step is to find a low cost replacement.

I believe the MFG of this Cog is www.unicornmfg.com.hk I have sent them an e-mail.

Knowing this radio Form My BCT15X Teardown This radio uses a Renesas UPD70F3741-GC MCU (Data Sheet) So it may not be to hard to adapt another display. Pinout for a ST7565 18pin COG LCD Display.

BobW55, I was thinking of going blue led's so it matches the blue in my H2 where I have it mounted in place of the onstar.

Be prepared to jump around between different flavors of blue. What looks good to the eye may not look so great thru a light pipe, diffuser and LCD panel. I ended up changing LEDs between subtle variations of red before I found one that didn't look terrible. Wasnt' this unit, but the premise is the same.

a4187 Yea, prob just have to worry about the buttons I may convert to 2.4" OLED on the display,

I am thinking the OLED in a Blue Back Light. I may have smaller 128X64 7 pin in a drawer if so will hook it up and see if I can find it. Been a while but i belive the ST7565 is compatible with them.

I have put the Board on the bench. I have Confirmed SPI Common Pinout also first 7 pins CS, RST, CTRL, CLK, SDI, VDD, VSS the rest are Power Management/Drive for LCD. So I think a 2.2. or a 2.54 OLED May work. I am still not sure what controller ic is used I hope not something custom. I also Looked for an hour thru the bread bin drawer and scrap bin and only found i2C & uart displays. So I will hit amazon and some friends up for a couple to play with!

The buttons usually give you a bit more wiggle room, as you usually have more space to maybe squeak in a larger SMD LED component if you need to. The little ones tasked with lighting LCDs are usually absolutely the only thing that will fit on god's green earth in that space. Good luck , keep us updated. I love this kind of stuff.

a417, I will probably have to remove the 4 Backlight LED's on the bottom for the retrofit. The 0603/0402 led's are not a problem very seasoned at removing and replacing them 0201 and 01005 can be fun a challenge at times.

I have put the Board on the bench.

Nice bench! Good luck with the project, following.
I've been successful repairing my 996XT (voltage regulator. At first it looked like an odd part, but was able to find it quite easily.
My BCT-15 just lost audio so it's going on the bench soon (probably a simple case of the headphone or speaker jack)

While you are at it...... 2 Questions.
1) Would you consider swapping the LEDs on the display board if I sent it to you?
2) What would you charge for such service?
I detest the orange ones in there now.

I no longer have equipment for SM stuff.

bobw55,

Maybe, I orderd some blue and iceblue led's they should be here in a few weeks. I did not order backlight LED's yet having trouble locating proper ones and if I swap over to the OLED will not need them as the OLED has its own backlight.

Really waiting to see how that OLED works out.

I've been following to see how this turns out...incidentally if you are doing away with the original back light led's I need a couple to repair a 996t that had one behind the scan/hold button that was faulty. Strangely on that scanner it has 2 sets of led's to change the background color similar to the old M1225 Motorola radios.

I believe they are 0603 led's for the button back light I will check again when I get out to the shop. LED's are very cheep you can get a strip of 100 for about a buck. I wish there was a BOM available to get the Correct Forward Voltage, Color, Angle Etc.. I have a letter to Eiji Hayasaki president of uniden almost ready for the mail box.

With New York passing the Fair Repair Act is is only time before Schematics and Parts to be made avaiable.
