I need help, someone brought me a scanner that they somehow turned off the voluume. The beeps it made when turning on and off is also turned off. He said that he pushed a button of the lower right side thinking that he was pushing the on/off button. Any ideas on what I need to do.

Thanks Joe

94caprice:

I don't think the volume setting is related to the power beep. There is a setting hiding inside the radio's firmware/software for keypad beeps, though, but IMHO, it'd be a tough one to diddle accidentally.

Having both the volume cranked down and that setting changed at one time seems odd, but not impossible, of course.

My question to Joe is whether or not the radio produces any sound at all - an open squelch on an uncoded channel, perhaps? My BCD396XT popped something a few weeks ago that left the radio working fairly well, except that there was no audio at all.... I think the thing (mine, that is) has a monolithic audio amp and it got fried by a voltage spike.

Regards,

It make no noise, when I programed it weeks ago it made noise when you pushed the keypad, changed the volume everytime. I asked agian and he said that he thought he was turning it off, pushed the wrong side of the scanner and now has no noise.

No sound at all, it did work before he pressed one of the buttons on the key pad. He was trying to turn off but pushed someother button.

Joe

What was the Volume set up when you pressed the Knob Down ?
Do you otherwise have Sound ?
Can you hear any transmission ?
Can you turn Quick keys on of from the Keypad ?

It was on 10, turned is up and down. There is no sound of anytype. You can see when it is scanning it will stop on a channel, but no sound. What quick keys are you wanting, it is set up only to turn on and off a bank.

Try a master reset and reprogram it. I have had glitches due to my error in programming.

Back up your Scanner then do this
"Scanner Reset to initialize the scanner's memory, turn off the scanner. Then press 2, 9, and Hold while turning it on (It helps if you can lay it flat). The scanner will give you the option 'Restore Preprogram List? "Yes"=E/No="."', if you press 'E/Yes', the scanner reloads the preprogrammed systems.
Important! This deletes all programmed data."

One small problem, I had to program by hand because my computer will not alowe me to program using systems like freescan. If is sound like I need to just do a reset of the memory, I will do this and just start over again. Found its not hard to program.

If nothing else works, you are not really losing anything, cause you can't hear it any way. Try listening to the weather first.

Do the reset and see if the Speaker will work after that.
If not you have a blown Speaker and need to send it in for repairs.
Good luck
