I have been running a Bearcat UBC9000XLT for some years now without a problem.

However recently after the scanner has been on for a number of hours it starts to hum, especially when scanning the hum pulses.

I think the problem will be either in the Power Pack or maybe onboard.

Before I start pulling the beast apart I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if its a common fault.

Any help on this please?

Many thanks.

are you trying to run and charge the radio at the same time? if so, try unplugging the charger and see if that clears it up. if this is the case, you need to replace the charger and or battery.

The UBC9000XLT is a desktop scanner, no batteries.

It sounds as if your AC adapter has gone bad. Try running off a battery (make SURE you get the polarity right), or your car's cigarette lighter plug, see how it sounds. If that solves the problem, then go buy a new AC adapter.
