Well thats about $75 more than its worth. In my area they are almost uselss becaust of several trunking systems and digital. Usually $50 in pawn shops is tops. Then if you have to buy a $30 batt pac then you are way over value. If you are in area w/ no trunking its OK.

PoliceBear,

The BC200XLT is a great scanner. I used mine for years until I recently replaced it with a BC796D. I do still use it for NASCAR and some mobile scanning fun. With everyone going digital it is fast becoming useless for police/fire, but I am sure it will be useable for years to come for business/CB/etc.

Never had a problem with mine.

The BC200/205 was one of the first 800 MHz capable scanenrs that came out in the late 80's. 129 for one is a bit steep for a decade and a half old scanner. You can go to RS and get a 1000 channel Pro95 for another 20 bucks.

I bought one and used it for several years. My major complaint was the battery pack, but I just opened it up and replaced the batteries myself.

If you don't live in an area where you need trunking, it is okay, but as most trunked systems are 800 or higher (yes I know there are a few VHF and UHF, especially in the 400 Mil band). But if you need the 800, then you probably need trunking so I'd go elsewhere.

the BC-200xlt does not track trunked systems... They didn't have a model in the field until the 235xlt. Here is a time line..

BC-200xlt non-tracking 800mhz
BC-220xlt non-tracking 800mhz
BC-230xlt non-tracking 800mhz
BC-235xlt First ever Trunktracker
BC-245xlt Second Generation Trunktracker II
BC-250d First ever Digital capable Trunktracker III
BC-296d Second Generation Digital ready Trunktracker III
BC-246t Third Generation Trunktracker VI
BC-396t Soon to be released Third Generation Digital ready Trunktracker VI

And that's just a short order of the models that have been released since the 200xlt.

You can get a really nice 246t for about 220 bucks right now online. And 245xlt's for around 199.00 (i'd go for the 246t) hehe

A few corrections for your list.

The BC250D won't do 9600 digital. It's not a true P-25 tracker.

The BC296D is a Trunktracker IV.

The BC246T is a Trunktracker III with no digital abilities.

I believe the BCD396T will be a Trunktracker IV as well, and I wouldn't call late summer 'soon'.

You can get a NEW BC246T for that much - not just a really nice one.

Never understood why the 200xlt had 800 mHz. The sensitivity on 800 was lousy and everybody going to 800 was going as a trunked system. The good thing about the 200xlt was it had EXCELLENT audio for a handheld, compared to the garbage speakers with almost no wattage they put out now days.

Yes - and look at the battery size. Everything is getting smaller.

And I have a conventional 800 PD near me. They are STILL conventional.

Besides, at least you could still HEAR trunked activity - even though they hadn't yet developed the trunktracking abilities.

The BC100XLT & BC200XLT were designed by the original 'Bearcat' scanner manufacture... the Electra Company. These scanners incorporated some very nice design features... one of them being the easy to change battery pack. Once Uniden took over the Bearcat line they made several design changes and the overall quality, feel and features of the product line changed.

I hope we're not giving up total runtime for a small size... I'd much rather see them double the number of batteries they use and have a scanner a few inches taller.

No - it seems that is a constant. The BC246T uses 2-AAs and runs over 10 hours. They are only reducing cells as they can increase efficiency - keeping the run time the same. The upcoming BCD396T will use 2-AAs as opposed to the 4-AAs of the BC296D. (I know - it's a proprietary pack, but it's still 4-AAs.

Sorry, BUT Uniden bought bearcat in 1984. The BC100XLT and BC200XLT were introduced in 1987 - three years later.

While the BC100 (no XLT) was an Electra product (while they were a division of Masco Corp of Indiana a the time), the XLT version was not.

Both the BC100XLT and BC200XLT were on the drawing boards at Electra at the time they were sold to Uniden.
